Women's Lacrosse Ranked No. 2 in Preseason Poll
After winning its first Western Women’s Lacrosse League (WWLL) title in 2010, the Santa Clara University’s women’s lacrosse team will open the 2011 campaign ranked No. 2 in the nation in a preseason poll by Lacrosse Magazine. The poll was compiled from consultations with Lacrosse Magazine staff members and coaches from around the country. Only defending US Lacrosse Women’s Division Intercollegiate Associates (WDIA) champion, Colorado State, was ranked ahead of the Broncos. The poll’s top five was rounded out by Cal Poly, UC Davis and Lindenwood.
Lacrosse Magazine also named SCU’s senior goalie Renee Eligio the Preseason Player of the Year. This is the second year in a row that a Bronco has been recognized with this preseason award, as Krista Shaw received the same honor in 2010.
Women's lacrosse is one of 18 club sports at Santa Clara.
The Broncos open their 2011 season on Jan. 28, 2011 in Berkeley against California.
