Former Bronco Grid Stars to be Honored

Sept. 6, 2001

MORAGA, Calif. - Former Santa Clara University football players Al Martin '49 and Jim Dowling '50 will join honorees from Saint Mary's College and the University of San Francisco as inductees into a group that honors the historic rivalry between the three schools.

Both played for Len Casanova and were part of the first football team at Santa Clara following a three-year hiatus due to World War II. During the 1946-49 seasons, the Broncos posted a 6-2 overall record against San Francisco and Saint Mary's College.

The duo will be recognized, along with the 1951 USF football team and Lou Ferry and Frank Cassara from Saint Mary's at the annual Spirit of Kezar reunion on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Moraga, Calif.
