Nick Mirkovich was hired at Santa Clara University in
the fall of 2009 and has since taken over the role of Associate
Director of Sports Services, coordinating the annual fundraising
efforts for all 19 of SCU's Division I varsity programs. He
also coordinates departmental travel for practices and
competition and takes part in event management for
internal and University-wide events.
His experience in athletic administration at the collegiate
Division I level now spans 12 years, including two years as the
primary men's basketball and baseball media relations contact
at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. (2007-09) and
five years as the assistant director of media relations at the
University of San Diego from 2001-06.
While at Santa Clara as the Associate Director of Media Relations
from 2009 through 2012, Mirkovich transformed the in-game live
video broadcast for both soccer programs and produced game
highlights, practice reports and video interviews that had never
before been done on the Mission campus. In his second and
third years, he took on more of an administrative role,
serving as editor of the Bronco Sports Magazine, overseeing the
department's statistical setup (which included the transition and
upgrade to StatBroadcast), as well as overseeing and managing
Bronco game-day personnel while mentoring and developing the
office's exceptional staff of student assistants.
A 2000 graduate of Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., Mirkovich was hired by the National Football League's office in New York City as the media relations contact for the NFL Europe League's Amsterdam Admirals in 2001. His season-long appointment in the NFLE came after working with the NFL's New England Patriots in 1999 and the Arena Football League's Portland Forest Dragons in 1998.
Returning to the United States in 2001, Mirkovich oversaw three nationally ranked NCAA Division I programs during his tenure at San Diego, publicizing 11 teams that qualified for NCAA tournament play. He gained additional experience in the field with College Sports Television (CSTV) in Carlsbad, Calif., as a key contributor to all aspects of website development for CSTV's 22-contracted schools within the ACC, Big East and SEC conferences.
One of his media advisories, written for the purpose of a news conference, was chosen for publication in the third edition of the college textbook "Public Relations Writing Worktext." His writing has also been featured in San Diego Sports Magazine and the Bay Area's Ulitmate Sports Guide. He is a current member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Additionally, he is a licensed real estate agent in California (#01911021) and holds Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) status, having completed a term of volunteer service in Taveuni Island, Fiji.
