Bronco Cross Shines at Home, Grows on Road in 2014
Santa Clara cross country made the most of its home races and road trips during the 2014 season, consistently setting personal best marks and rewriting a pair of school records along the way. The Broncos took advantage of a schedule that featured three meets at Sunnyvale's Baylands Park, as well as races in Minnesota and Montana to shine at home and gain experience on the road throughout the fall.

Cross Country's Nash, Crook, Greenough Named to WCC All-Academic Team; Nine Broncos Recognized in Conference Honors
The West Coast Conference announced its 2014 Cross Country All-Academic Team on Thursday, and three Santa Clara Broncos have been selected for the team. Senior Amia Nash as well as juniors Bryan Crook and Ryan Greenough were named to their respective WCC All-Academic teams.

Cross Country/Track Signs Two to National Letters of Intent
Santa Clara cross country & track has announced the signing of Northern California runners Bevin McCullough and Ross Corey to National Letters of Intent, head coach Felipe Montoro announced today. The pair will join the Broncos as freshman in 2015-16.

Cross Country Closes out Fall at NCAA West Region Championships
Santa Clara cross country closed out its fall season at the NCAA West Region Championships Friday at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. As a team, the Bronco men finished their 10k race in 17th place and the Bronco women finished their 6k race in 31st place.

NCAA West Regionals on Deck for Cross Country Friday
Santa Clara's cross country teams and individual runners will vie for a spot in the NCAA Championship race Friday when they head to the NCAA West Regionals at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. The top two teams from the men's and women's sides advance as well as the top four individuals not from a qualifying team, provided they finish in the top 25 runners. This year's national championship race is scheduled for Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Watch this Week's Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap
On this week's edition of the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap, co-hosts Denzel Johnson from the men's basketball team and Nici Gilday from the women's basketball team give a quick update on the latest Bronco sports news. This edition features interviews, highlights, pictures and bloopers that you won't want to miss! EyeBronco first gets an inside look to the Volleyball team’s very successful two win weekend. On Thursday night, the team had a huge win over No. 11 BYU in three straight sets. Then they battled through a five set match to beat top-ranked San Diego on Saturday. Volleyball has beaten four top 25 teams this season. It was the first time a West Coast Conference team has swept both BYU and San Diego in the same weekend since BYU joined the league three years ago. Yannick Atanga spoke to Player of the Week Nikki Hess about the weekend. Women’s soccer had two games in Buck Shaw this weekend and walked away with two conference wins. They defeated Gonzaga on Friday night, 3-0, behind the goals from Sofia Huerta and Mariana Galvan. Then on Sunday, Huerta was able to score a last minute goal to lift the Broncos over Portland, 1-0. Huerta leads the team with 15 goals on the season. After the Portland match, EyeBronco heard from Huerta and goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski about the final weekends of the season. This Wrap also features EyeBronco interviews over the past week with Kelly Ryan and Kurt Reugg from cross country. They hosted the WCC Championships at Baylands Park on Saturday. The team totaled nine PR runs, including a school record of 23:52 by senior Kurt Ruegg in the men's 8k race. Ruegg finished 16th overall while the team came in 5th. Ruegg, Bronco Men Set School Records; Nine Runners PR at WCC Championships
Santa Clara cross country made its final 2014 race at Baylands Park a memorable one Saturday morning by totaling nine PR runs, including a school record 23:52.5 by senior Kurt Ruegg in the men's 8k race of the West Coast Conference Championship. Led by Grayson Murphy, Santa Clara's top five runners on the women's side all set personal best 6k times and Ruegg led a men's side that also had its third, fourth and fifth place runners set personal best 8k times.

Cross Country Hosts WCC Championships Saturday
The top teams in West Coast Conference men’s and women’s cross country will be crowned Saturday at the WCC Championships, held at Santa Clara’s home course, Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. It marks the third Bronco race at Baylands this season, following the WCC Preview Meet in September and the team’s most recent race, the Bronco Invite in October.

Bronco Men Capture Sixth; Several Runners PR at Bronco Invite
At their second home event of the season, the Santa Clara men’s and women’s cross country teams continued the trend of progress and improvement with positive results at the Bronco Invite Saturday. A total of five runners set personal best marks between the men’s and women’s invitationals. Between the four races — men’s 8k invitational, men’s 8k open, women’s 6k invitational, women’s 6k open — 22 Broncos ran at meet in Baylands Park.

Cross Country Faces Competitive Field as Host of Bronco Invitational Saturday
Santa Clara cross country will race against a large, competitive field as hosts of Saturday's Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. Four West Coast Conference schools and 29 programs are represented between the large fields for the men's and women's invitationals. The meet begins at 9 am with the men's 8K Invite.

Cross Country Eyes Chance to ‘Sharpen Up’ at SF State Meet Friday
Santa Clara cross country is set to send eight student-athletes — four men and four women — to Friday’s San Francisco State Invitational at Speedway Meadow. The Broncos will not score either team in the event, which features a women’s 6k and men’s 8k run. It marks the second time this season Santa Clara will race in Golden Gate Park, after competing there in the season-opening USF Invitational Aug. 30.

Women’s Cross Country Produces Strong Individual Efforts at Montana Invite
In the second of four straight weekends of competition, Santa Clara women’s cross country traveled to Montana for the women’s 5k at the Montana Invite Saturday. Freshman Grayson Murphy posted the fastest Bronco time of 18:47.17, good for 22nd place overall.

Bronco Women’s Cross Heads Northeast for Montana Invite Saturday
Santa Clara women’s cross country will race for the second time in as many weekends when it heads northeast for the Montana Invite Sat., Oct. 4. The Broncos join host Montana, Montana State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, College of Idaho and Carroll in the field at the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula, Mont. It marks the first time since 2011 that the women’s team travels outside California, Oregon and Washington for a competition.

Broncos Gain Valuable Experience at Griak, Stanford Invites
Three different groups of Santa Clara cross country runners competed a little more than 2,000 miles apart Saturday. Santa Clara sent its top men’s group to Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course for the Roy Griak Invitational while Bronco men’s and women’s teams raced at the Stanford Invite just up the road from the Mission campus.

Cross Country Splits Squad for Griak, Stanford Invites Saturday
Three groups of Bronco cross country runners are set to race in two different cities when the team competes for the third time this season on Sat., Sept. 27. The first men’s group travels to the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course for the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. At the first of three home meets from Baylands Park in fall 2014, the Santa Clara men's and women's teams took to the course Sat., Sept. 13, in Sunnyvale. The Bronco men finished in second place of eight teams — including placing three runners in the top 10 — and the Bronco women finished in seventh place of 11 teams in the second event of the season. Bronco Cross Runs Well at Season-Opening USF Invitational
At Saturday's season-opening USF invitational, 23 Bronco cross country runners took to Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow to begin their 2014 campaign. Ten Bronco women competed against eight teams in the 5k and 13 Bronco men competed against nine teams in the 8k, with each team taking fourth place in its respective race.

With 16 Teams Posting 3.0 or Better, Broncos Top Mark For 22nd Time in 23 Quarters
Topping 3.0 or better for the 22nd time in 23 quarters with 19 Bronco student-athletes achieving a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) and 16 of the 19 Bronco teams scoring a 3.0 term GPA or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.125 GPA for the Spring 2014 quarter. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA of 3.087 continues to climb for its student-athletes as well.

Bronco Cross Country Releases 2014 Schedule; Highlight Of The Year Is Hosting WCC Championships
The Bronco men’s and women’s cross-country teams released their upcoming Fall 2014 schedule on Thursday. The highlight of the season will be when Santa Clara hosts the West Coast Conference Championship in Sunnyvale, Calif. on Nov. 11. They will also host the ninth-annual Bronco Invitational on Oct. 18. The Broncos have a tough schedule ahead of them, as they will be mostly competing on the road this upcoming Fall season.

Cross Country's Demaree WCC Post-Graduate Scholarship; Fourth Straight Year A Bronco Has Won the Award
For the fourth straight year a Bronco student-athlete, this year cross country runner Ben Demaree, has received the West Coast Conference Postgraduate scholarship. The 2014 WCC Postgraduate Scholarship recipients were announced at the fifth annual WCC Honors Dinner, held last week in conjunction with the Executive Council and Presidents' Council meetings at Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah. Demaree was named the Male Postgraduate Scholarship winner, while Gonzaga University coxswain Naseeb Bhangal was named the Female Postgraduate Scholarship winner.
