Playing its local rival, Santa Clara baseball fell to San Jose State by a final of 10-7. The Broncos are now 14-22 on the season while the Spartans are now 12-25.

Baseball Falls to Gonzaga 2-1 in Series Finale
In the shortest ballgame of the 2014 campaign for Santa Clara baseball, the Broncos lost to the Gonzaga Bulldogs 2-1 Sunday afternoon. Starting pitchers Steven Wilson and Andrew Sopko each threw 8.0 innings in a contest that spanned two hours and two minutes at Washington Trust Field.

Broncos Play Extras for Second Straight Night, Fall to Gonzaga 2-1
The Santa Clara Broncos went to extra innings for the second night in a row and fell to the Gonzaga Bulldogs 2-1 Saturday at Washington Trust Field. Starting pitchers Peter Hendron and Brandon Bailey dueled to a pair of no decisions and the Bulldogs scored the game-winning run on an infield single with five infielders in the 10th.

Seeking to win its third consecutive West Coast Conference series, Santa Clara baseball heads north to Spokane, Wash. for a weekend series against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. The two teams square off at 6 p.m. April 11 and 12 before an April 13 series finale at 12 p.m. Santa Clara is 13-19 overall, 4-5 in the WCC and 2-5 on the road.

Woods’ Game-Ending Outfield Assist Seals 6-5 Extra-Inning Win for Broncos
Santa Clara baseball jumped out to a 5-1 in the fifth of Friday night’s game at Washington Trust Field and scored one run in the 10th to defeat the Gonzaga Bulldogs 6-5. Freshman second baseman Kyle Czaplak scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch and sophomore Kert Woods made a game-ending outfield assist from left to seal the 10-inning win.

In their third and final head-to-head meeting of the season Tuesday night, the Santa Clara Broncos and Nevada Wolf Pack played their highest scoring game of three contests in 2014. The Wolf Pack put up multiple runs in the first two frames and scored in five of the first six innings to win 9-4 at Peccole Park and take the season series two games to one.

The Santa Clara Broncos clinched their second consecutive West Coast Conference series win with a 3-1 victory over the Portland Pilots Sunday afternoon at Schott Stadium. Redshirt freshman starting pitcher Steven Wilson threw 8.0 innings while allowing only one run and redshirt senior designated hitter Quinton Perry drove in the game-winning RBI on a two-run triple in the sixth.

Bronco Baseball Scores in Five Frames, Gets Seven Strong Innings from Hendron to Beat Portland 7-3
The Santa Clara Broncos opened the scoring in the third inning of Saturday’s West Coast Conference game, and added runs in four of the next five innings to defeat the Portland Pilots 7-3. Sophomore starting pitcher Peter Hendron went for seven strong innings, eight different Broncos recorded a hit and the team committed no errors for its first WCC win at Schott Stadium this season.

Former Broncos Nava, Medica Begin Season in Big Leagues
As the 2014 Major League Baseball season gets under way this week, former Santa Clara Bronco baseball players Daniel Nava and Tommy Medica were named to their teams' opening day rosters. It marks the second season that Nava has been on the Boston Red Sox opening day roster and the first season that Medica has been on the San Diego Padres opening day roster.

Santa Clara Splits Doubleheader with Pacific, Cortopassi’s Ninth-Inning RBI Single Lifts Broncos in Game Two
After Saturday’s contest between the Santa Clara Broncos and Pacific Tigers was rained out, the teams played a twin billing Sunday at Klein Family Field. The Tigers won 7-0 in game one and the Broncos rallied to beat the Tigers 7-6 and take the series two games to one. Santa Clara improved to 11-17 (2-4 WCC) while Pacific fell to 12-17 (4-5 WCC).

Santa Clara baseball picked up its first West Coast Conference win of the 2014 season with a 6-2 victory over University of the Pacific at Klein Family Field Friday night. The Broncos got seven strong innings from senior starting pitcher D.J. Zapata, struck for multiple runs in the sixth and ninth and committed no errors for a team victory.

Broncos Outdone by Aztecs in Close 4-3 Contest Wednesday
The Santa Clara Broncos scored three runs in the fourth inning of Wednesday afternoon’s game at Tony Gwynn Stadium and the San Diego State Aztecs answered with runs in the sixth and eighth to win 4-3. The Aztecs took both games of the midweek series to improve to 19-6 (5-4 MWC) while the Broncos fell to 9-16 (0-3 WCC).

In the 2014 WCC opening series finale, the Santa Clara Broncos lost 10-0 to the Pepperdine Waves Sunday afternoon at Stephen Schott Stadium. After five scoreless innings to start the game, the Waves put up 10 runs in the last four frames to win for the third time in as many days.

The Santa Clara Broncos scored runs in the first and third innings of Saturday’s WCC tilt with Pepperdine, and the Waves responded with a four-run seventh to win 4-2 at Schott Stadium. Santa Clara led for more than half the game, but could not respond to the Waves’ big seventh inning in the loss.

The Santa Clara Broncos overcame a five-run Penn State fifth with nine unanswered runs in three innings to win 10-5 Friday night at Schott Stadium. Four Broncos picked up multiple hits on the night, and four of the team’s nine hits overall went for extra bases, including a triple and a home run by senior center fielder Greg Harisis.

In an effort to support the fight against childhood cancer, Santa Clara Baseball hosted a "Shave for Change" event after its March 6, 2014 home game and EYEBRONCO was on the scene. The weekend features a Friday matchup with UC Davis at 4 p.m., Saturday game against Pacific at 6 p.m. and concludes with a Sunday showdown vs. Washington at 11 a.m.

The Broncos drop to 6-7 and the Mustangs improve to 9-2 in a fog-shortened game called with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Santa Clara's Greg Harisis Named WCC Rawlings Baseball Player of the Week
SANTA CLARA, CALIF. — The West Coast Conference announced its weekly baseball honors Monday, and Santa Clara's Greg Harisis has been named WCC Rawlings Baseball Player of the Week for Feb. 24, 2014. During the week of Feb. 17-23, the senior infielder/outfielder from Yorba Linda, Calif. earned Irish Baseball Classic MVP honors with a stat line of 9-for-19 with three RBIs, seven runs scored, two doubles, one home run and an outfield assist as the Broncos went 4-0.

In the championship game of the Irish Baseball Classic Sunday, the Santa Clara Broncos overcame an early four-run deficit to defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 8-7 at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. The Broncos are now 5-4 on the season on the strength of four wins in a row, and the Fighting Irish are 3-4. Santa Clara baseball built an early lead and added 12 runs in the last two innings to beat University of the Incarnate Word 16-3 Friday night at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. The Broncos are now 3-4 with a 2-0 mark in the Irish Baseball Classic, while the Cardinals drop to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in San Antonio. Santa Clara matches up with a West Coast Conference opponent for the first time in 2014 tomorrow as it takes on Gonzaga for a 10:30 a.m. PST first pitch.

Behind a complete-game effort from senior starting pitcher D.J. Zapata, Santa Clara baseball won its first game of the Irish Baseball Classic 2-1 Thursday night over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. The Broncos improved to 2-4 with the victory while the Irish fell to 1-3. Santa Clara returns to action tomorrow for the second of a four-game stretch at 2 p.m. PST against University of the Incarnate Word.

The Santa Clara Broncos managed five hits and threatened in the latter innings of Tuesday night’s contest, but lost to the No. 26 Cal Poly Mustangs 8-0 at Schott Stadium. Bronco Baseball Team Starts First Day of Practice At Hospital - Read Why
Santa Clara's baseball team was set to take the field Friday afternoon for its first practice this season. But before taking the field for their first intra-squad scrimmage this evening, the entire team and coaches and staff took a quick bus ride up to Palo Alto Friday afternoon to meet the staff, doctors and patients of the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Former Bronco baseball standout Tommy Medica has been promoted to the big leagues for the first time in his career. Medica got the call from the San Diego Padres late Sunday night and the move was made official Tuesday. He was selected by the Padres in the 14th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Santa Clara head coach Dan O’Brien has hired Sean Riley as an assistant coach for his staff. Riley replaces Ryan Leake who left after the end of the 2013 season. Former Bronco and Daniel Nava '06 returns to the Bay Area this weekend for a key series as the left-fielder for the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are in town to play a three game series with the Oakland As. Many are calling it the ALCS preview. Leading the American League East, the Red Sox have the second best record in baseball behind the St. Louis Cardinals. The Oakland As are in first place of the American League West, 1 game in front of the Texas Rangers.
