Santa Clara Takes Lead 2010-11 WCC Commissioner’s Cup Race
Following a strong performance at the West Coast Conference men’s and women’s tennis championships, Santa Clara University has taken over the top spot in the race for the 2010-11 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup. The Broncos have moved into first place in the overall standings past the University of Portland, which had led since the start of the fall season. Santa Clara won the 2005 and 2007 West Coast Conference Commissioner's Cups.

Kelly Funeral Arrangements Announced
Ed Kelly ’39, who passed away on Sat., April 30 after a recent surgery, volunteered at Santa Clara for more than 29 years. It is only fitting his funeral mass will be held at the Mission Church on the Santa Clara University campus. In addition to funeral arrangements, the Bronco Bench Foundation announced Tuesday a scholarship fund has been set up in the name of Edward M Kelly and details follow below.

Ed Kelly ’39 passed away late Sat., April 30 after a recent surgery. Kelly, 94, was surrounded by those who loved him. Kelly had been a volunteer at Santa Clara for more than 29 years.

Trasolini Only WCC Player to be named to the National All-Academic Jesuit Men's Basketball Team
Santa Clara’s Marc Trasolini, a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District All-American who was recently named a finalist as the top collegiate basketball player in British Columbia, leads a group of six student-athletes named to the 2010-2011 National Jesuit All-Academic Men’s Basketball Team that was announced Monday by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. Trasolini is the only player from the WCC to be named to the All-Academic list and joins Kevin Foster who was named to the National Jesuit All-League team last week.

Leading the country in threes made per game (3.71) and threes made (140), Bronco sophomore Kevin Foster was named to the 2010-2011 National All-Jesuit Men’s Basketball Team, as announced Friday by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. He is the only player from the WCC to be named to the 10-man national team.

Basketball Presents Annual Awards
The Santa Clara men's basketball program held its annual Banquet on Mon., April 18. The highlight of the night were the words from the four seniors – Troy Payne, Nate Mensah, Michael Santos and Ben Dowdell. The team also celebrated the CIT Championship by cutting down the nets and watching a fantastic highlight video produced by Video Coordinator Adam Bauman.

Basketball's Roquemore and Payne Honored with Mid-Major All-American Awards
Bronco basketball players Evan Roquemore and Troy Payne were both honored by the CollegeInsider.com website this week. Roquemore was named to the Mid-Major Freshman All-American team and Payne was named to the Mid-Major Defensive All-American team. Earlier this month Kevin Foster was named a Mid-Major All-American and the MVP of the West Coast Conference. Foster was named a Mid-Major Freshman All-American his rookie year as well in 2009.

Basketball Announces Signee Brandon Clark
Santa Clara Head Basketball Coach Kerry Keating announced today Brandon Clark of East Chicago, Ind. (Merrillville HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent for the April, 2011 signing period. Clark is part of the 2011 Bronco signing class that includes the three November, 2010 signees: forward/center Robert Garrett (Sacramento HS, Sacramento, Calif.); wing Denzel Johnson (Clovis West HS, Fresno, Calif.); and forward Karim York (Del Valle HS, Del Valle, Texas).

Santa Clara To Play in the 76 Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament Returns to Anaheim
Santa Clara will play in the 76 Classic this next Thanksgiving. The 76 Classic 2011 tournament field, which includes Santa Clara along with Boston College, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Saint Louis, UC Riverside, Washington State and Villanova, will be be held over Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 24, 25 & 27, 2011 at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center adjacent to Disneyland.

Foster Named WCC Player of the Month Again in March
Already named the Most Valuable Player of the CollegeInsider.com Post-season Tournament, Bronco sophomore Kevin Foster was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month in March on Wednesday. Foster received the honor in February as well and was named the WCC Player of the Week twice this season as well. Foster shattered the WCC record with 140 threes this season, which is No. 9 all-time in NCAA single season history. He set the Bronco career three pointers attempted and also broke the single season school records for points scored, minutes played, threes made, threes attempted and games started. Foster, who scored 23.3 ppg in the month of March, averaged 4.7 threes per game as well. Also in March, he led the Broncos with 3.7 spg and 1.3 apg. He also averaged 3.7 rpg in 35.1 mpg. He led the WCC in scoring this year with 20.2 ppg. He led the team with 3.7 apg and 1.6 spg. He was named All-WCC First Team. CollegeInsider.com named Foster the MVP of the WCC this season and also a Mid-Major All-American.

Basketball Ranked No. 22 Nationally in Final National Mid-Major Poll; Foster, Keating Honored
Santa Clara was ranked No. 22 in the final CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major national poll released today. It is the first time in school history the team has finished ranked nationally in the poll’s 12th season of being published. Head coach Kerry Keating and Kevin Foster both received honors from the CollegeInsider.com website.

Broncos are CIT Champions!
Putting five players in double figures to defeat Iona 76-69, Santa Clara won the CollegeInsider.com Post-Season Tournament, including its last three road games. Santa Clara finishes the season at 24-14 and Iona finishes at 25-12. The 24 wins are the most since it won 27 in 1968-69 and its the first post-season the basketball program has ever won. Santa Clara is 2-0 lifetime vs. the Gaels, having won in 1960. Kevin Foster was named the MVP of the tournament and Marc Trasolini and Troy Payne were named All-Tournament.

Santa Clara to play at Iona in the CIT Championship Game
NOTE: THE PEP RALLY HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO SANTA CLARA GOING STRAIGHT TO NYC FOR THE GAME. Santa Clara, 23-14, will play at Iona College, 25-11, on Wed., March 30 at 5 pm Pacific. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports with more information to come. Santa Clara advanced with a 72-55 win at SMU on Friday and Iona won 83-80 at East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon. The team and coaches met this morning and decided to stay in Dallas rather than spend two days traveling back and forth to the championship game. While some of the players spent time at the pool in 87 degree sunshine and some went on a tour of Dallas and its sports facilities, the coaches spent the afternoon watching Iona's win at ETSU.

Basketball Clinches CIT Championship Berth with 17-point win at SMU
What a welcome back to his home state of Texas! Houston native Kevin Foster scored 35 points, including five threes and Troy Payne added 15 to help Santa Clara to a 72-55 victory over host SMU. Santa Clara moves to 23-14 and SMU is 20-15. It is just the third time in school history Santa Clara has won 23+ games in a season and the first time since 1969-70. It has won four post-season games for the first time in school history.

The all-time series is knotted up at 1-1 the home team winning in 1987 (SMU won Dec. 21, 1987 78-70) and 1988 (SCU won 64-61 on Dec. 22, 1988). Basketball Ends USF Season; Advance to CIT Semis to Play at SMU on Friday
Santa Clara defeated San Francisco Tuesday night in a hard-fought war, coming out on top 95-91 to advance to the CIT semi-finals in Dallas at SMU on Fri., March 25 at 7 pm Central (5 pm Pacific). It was the 208th meeting in the two school histories and it lived up to the billing. It is the first time since 1983-84 that Santa Clara has won 22 games in a season and it is just the fifth time 22+ win season in school history. Santa Clara is 10-0 when it scores 80+ this season and 18-1 in Coach Keating's four years.

Foster Named NABC First Team; Broncos to Host First Round CIT Game Tues., March 15
The nation's top three-point shooter and the West Coast Conference's leading scorer, Santa Clara sophomore-redshirt Kevin Foster has been named to the NABC All-District First Team. He is the second player in three years to receive this honor under Bronco head coach Kerry Keating with John Bryant picking up the same honor in 2009. Foster is just the 13th player in school history to be named to the All-District First Team. Foster will now be eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All-America teams to be announced on Sat., April 4 as part of the NABC Convention in Houston at the Final Four.

The Santa Clara University men's basketball team will participate in the post-season for the first time in 15 years after accepting a spot in the 2011 CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). Santa Clara is 19-14 this season and was the No. 4 seed in the West Coast Conference after finishing 8-6 in league play. Behind junior Marc Trasolini’s 21 points which helped him to his 1000th career point, Santa Clara downed Pepperdine 71-68 in a crucial WCC matchup on Senior night at the Leavey Center. With the win, the Broncos improve to 18-13 overall and finishes 8-6 in the WCC. Pepperdine falls to 11-20 and 5-9 in the WCC. Behind Trasolini and Dowdell's Career-Bests, Men Outlast LMU in Double OT; SENIOR NIGHT SATURDAY AT 7 PM!
In front of a national television audience on ESPNU, making its first 21 free throws and finishing 37-42 for the night from the line, Santa Clara battled back to win 94-88 in double-overtime over LMU. The 37 Bronco free throws made were the most the Broncos have made since they hit 42 vs. Gonzaga on Dec. 23, 1968. Santa Clara swept the season series with LMU.

Pilots Top Santa Clara in Portland Saturday Night
In a battle for fourth place in the WCC, Portland topped the Broncos 78-68. Santa Clara is 16-13 and 6-6 in the WCC and Portland is 19-9 and 6-6 in the WCC. A forward from Milpitas, California and 2009 Bellarmine Prep graduate, has averaged 4.1 ppg and 3.3 rpg. Last year as a freshman, he averaged 7.6 ppg and 4.6 rpg. He’s averaging 5.5 ppg and 7.3 rpg the last four contests.

Trasolini Named to Capital One Academic All-District First Team for Second Straight Year
Santa Clara junior forward Marc Trasolini has been honored as a Capital One Academic All-District First Team member for the second straight year. Trasolini is the only player from the West Coast Conference and Pac-10 Conference to receive this honor two straight season in District 8. Trasolini will now advance to the voting for national Academic All-American honors. Trasolini is one of just four players nationally on the first team to score 12.4+ppg and 5.9+ rpg with a 3.51+ GPA (as of Feb. 3, 2011).

Foster Named WCC Player of the Week for Second Time This Season
After putting up a league-best 36 points in the 85-71 victory over Gonzaga on Jan. 20 and then scoring his 1000th career point two days later in the 72-59 win over Portland on Jan. 22, Santa Clara redshirt-sophomore was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday. It is the second time he has been named Player of the Week this season (Dec. 6 was the other). Leading the country with 74 threes made this season, Foster is No. 1 in scoring in WCC games (22.2 ppg) and No. 2 overall (19.3 ppg). On the week, he averaged 53.6 percent from the floor, including 45.0 percent from the three-point line and 84.2 percent from the free throw line.

Santa Clara, 4-3, hosts UC Santa Barbara, 3-3, on Sat., Dec. 4 at 7 pm before the Broncos take a week off for final exams. The Broncos played seven games in 15 days before having the last week off. Santa Clara, 79-68 winners over the Gauchos on the road last year, was led by Kevin Foster's 18 points before he broke his foot in the final minutes of the victory at the Thunderdome (see boxscore on page 3). After SCU's win, UCSB went on and won the Big West Conference Tournament and advanced to the 2010 NCAA Tournament before falling 68-51 to Ohio State to finish 20-10.

In the first-ever meeting, Santa Clara lost to Ohio 78-72 Saturday in Las Vegas in its final game of the IBN Sports Las Vegas Invitational. The Bobcats finished the last 5:02 on a 12-2 run. Basketball Travels to Vegas to Play Arizona at 7:30 pm on Friday as Part of IBN Sports Las Vegas Invite
Santa Clara will travel to Las Vegas for the final two games of the IBN Sports Las Vegas Invitational during Thanksgiving weekend. The Broncos will be playing in a familiar place: the Orleans Arena. The West Coast Conference is entering the third year of its contract with the WCC Championship in Las Vegas and SCU is 1-2 in the Orleans Arena as a neutral venue. The IBN Las Vegas Invitational field features Kansas, Arizona, Santa Clara, Ohio, Northern Colorado, Bethune-Cookman, Valparaiso and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Basketball Downs Northern Colorado, Play Arizona in Las Vegas Friday
With Evan Roquemore and Raymond Cowels III scoring double-figures off the bench and Kevin Foster hitting 19 points, Santa Clara held off a late rally from Northern Colorado in the Leavey Center to win Tuesday night, 87-84. Roquemore hit 10 of 10 free throws to score a career-high 18 points and Foster has now scored 19+ points 19 games during his Bronco career.

Santa Clara will play the second of four games on Tuesday as part of the IBN Sports Las Vegas Invitational. Santa Clara, 3-1, hosts the first-ever meeting with Northern Colorado, 2-1, on Tues., Nov. 23 at 7 pm. Santa Clara is hosting two first round games in the Leavey Center as the Broncos defeated Bethune-Cookman 75-61 on Sunday. With both teams putting four players in double figures, UNC fell 93-70 at Arizona on Sunday after collecting early-season wins vs. Tabor College and Wyoming.

Santa Clara outscored Bethune-Cookman 20-8 during a six minute run in the middle of the second half and Kevin Foster hit a career-high six three-pointers to give the Broncos a 75-61 win over Bethune-Cookman on Sunday as part of the iBAN Sports Las Vegas Invitational. Santa Clara, 1-1, hosts Rice University, 2-0, on Thurs., Nov. 18 at 7 pm. Rice has won both meetings with the Broncos. Rice finished off the Broncos off 74-56 on Dec 21, 1981 in Santa Clara. Rice won 70-57 in Houston last season on Dec. 16, 2009.

Marc Trasolini’s fourth career double-double paced the Broncos in their season opener as Santa Clara defeated Cal State Bakersfield 82-77 at the Leavey Center. Kevin Foster added 19 points in 31 minutes for the Broncos in his first game since Dec. 1st, 2009.

Men's Basketball Opens Season vs. CSU Bakersfield Friday
As part of a doubleheader with the women's team, the Santa Clara men's basketball team opens its 2010-11 season with a 6 pm game on Fri., Nov. 12 vs. CSU Bakersfield. Santa Clara is 2-1 in season opener's under Bronco head coach Kerry Keating. Santa Clara was 11-21 last season and CSU Bakersfield was 7-22. The Roadrunners become NCAA Division I Championship eligible for the first time this season.

Santa Clara Basketball will host its first video press conference of the year on Fri., Oct. 29, at 3:30 pm PST on www.ustream.com. Junior Marc Trasolini and sophomore-redshirt Kevin Foster have been named to the West Coast Conference preseason all-league basketball team. Santa Clara is one of four teams in the WCC with two players on the preseason all-league list. Santa Clara was picked fourth overall and Gonzaga is picked to win the league.

McArthur Puts in Hard Work
A product of De La Salle High School in nearby Danville, Calif., newcomer John McArthur, a 6'9 forward, came to Santa Clara ready to compete. Having spent his summer at SCU taking classes and working out with teammates, McArthur has had a smooth transition to college life off the court. Walk-Ons Bring Tons to the Team
Not every player on the Santa Clara University basketball team can hit the winning shot, be the leading scorer or start every game. In fact, some of the Broncos may not see much playing time in the 2010-11 season, but that does not mean they arent valuable assets to the developing Bronco basketball program. Indeed, the walk-ons play an important, though often overlooked, role for Santa Clara basketball.

Trasolini Reflects on Play in Europe, the Upcoming Season
Junior forward Marc Trasolini spent some time this summer in Canada training with Canadas National team and then played a series of exhibition games against Senior National teams from other countries in Europe. Canadas main focus was to get experience for the players, work to develop the players abilities, see the top prospects from Canada and also determine who the head coach would be for the Senior Team, which will most likely represent Canada in the Olympic Games in London in 2012. Trasolinis goal is to play on the Olympic team someday in the future.

Men's Basketball Releases 2010-11 Schedule
Opening the 2011 WCC schedule vs. San Francisco on Sat., Jan. 8, Santa Clara released its 2010-11 mens basketball schedule today (see page 2 for 2010-11 schedule). The upcoming scheduled features 11 games vs. 2010 post-season teams during the upcoming season, including 18 home games. The Broncos, who were the seventh-youngest team in the country last year, will have one of the youngest teams in the country again this season with nine freshmen and sophomore scholarship players.
