Martin Keskari's 64 Pushes Him Into Second at UOP Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - Santa Clara University's Martin Keskari out-played the entire field Tuesday at UOP's Stockton Convention & Visitors Bureau Pacific Invitational. The freshman from Frankfurt, Germany shot an 8-under par 64 and will enter Wednesday's final round just one shot off the lead.

Keskari - who posted a 3-under par 69 on Monday - has carded 12 birdies and an eagle through the first 36 holes at Brookside Country Club in Stockton. Long off the tee, Keskari has also taken advantage of the par 5's, playing them at 6-under over the past two days.

The young import from Germany is part of Santa Clara's outstanding recruiting class of 2012-13 brought in by eighth-year head coach Rob Miller. During his tenure, the Broncos have never fielded a team that entered four freshmen in a single tournament, until now.

Carlos Briones - a true freshman from the East Bay - is also right in the mix. Briones shot a 5-under par 67 Tuesday and sits five shots off the pace and in a tie for eighth overall.

"Our freshmen are playing with more and more confidence everyday," said Miller. "They really get along well and push eachother. It's fun to have a solid group of players who are also solid people. Like I said it's a lot of fun."

As a team the Broncos are in 7th place but have a realistic chance of moving up as high has third if they play well in tomorrow's final round. Check back Wednesday for more updates or follow the scoring live on GolfStat.com
