SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The two-time Major League Soccer champion San Jose Earthquakes will be recognizing Santa Clara University and its soccer programs Saturday, August 28 when it plays the Colorado Rapids in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Spartan Stadium. A special allotment of tickets for the match has been designated for SCU supporters and alumni and are available by calling Karlton Gholston at 408/288-2648. Prior to the contest, the SCU men's soccer team will be conducting an autograph session outside the East side of Spartan Stadium. In addition, the squad will be recognized at the game and there will be a special appearance by Bucky the Bronco. Depending on travel plans as it returns from the season opener at Cal Poly, there could also be an appearance by the Bronco women's team. As many as five former Broncos could be a part of the contest as members of the two teams with 2002 MLS goalkeeper of the year Joe Cannon starting in goal for the visiting Rapids. Defender Jeff Stewart, who missed most of last season and the first half of 2004 due to a knee injury, is also a member of the Colorado squad. The Earthquakes, coming off an impressive 2-0 victory over D.C. United last weekend, feature three former Broncos. Rookie defender Ryan Cochrane has been one of the top first-year players in the MLS this season after coming to the team as a first round draft pick last spring. Second-year forward Jamil Walker has shown flashes of being one of the MLS' fastest players and is a Quakes fan favorite. First-year goalkeeper Steve Cronin is spending the season as an understudy to Canadian international Pat Onstad. Santa Clara season tickets and family plans are on sale through the Bronco athletic ticket office by calling 408/554-4660 or by clicking here.
