Bronco Soccer To Honor Local Community

Aug. 11, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - For the third consecutive year, the Santa Clara University athletic department will show appreciation for its local community by conducting the Santa Clara Community Day in conjunction with the annual adidas Classic men's soccer tournament scheduled for Thursday, September 16 at Buck Shaw Stadium. The event, which is presented by the Bank of Santa Clara and the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce & Convention-Visitor's Bureau, provides Santa Clara residents the ability to purchase tickets for half price off an adult admission for only $3.50 with a valid proof of residency, including a driver's license or utility bill. This year's event features three local teams with Santa Clara, an NCAA Tournament semifinalist from last season, hosting neighborhood rival San Jose State in a Rivalry Series match that helps determine the winner of an all-sports competition between the two schools Last season, the Spartans managed to defeat the Broncos 2-1 at Spartan Stadium in one of only three regular-season losses on the year for Santa Clara. Four outstanding college soccer programs will again be featured in the evening's doubleheader, opening with a 5 p.m. matchup between the University of San Francisco and highly-successful Davidson College from North Carolina. The Santa Clara versus San Jose State match begins at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will take place at Buck Shaw Stadium on the SCU campus. In addition, the evening will also feature a pregame community fair and fan festival featuring local businesses and community organizations, a display of the Rivalry Series trophy that goes to the winner of the annual SCU versus SJSU competition, and a post-match autograph session for all fans with the Bronco men's soccer team.
