Medhi Ballouchy Earns National and Conference Honors
Sept. 7, 2004
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After being named MVP of the diadora Classic last weekend, sophomore midfielder Medhi Ballouchy was named to College Soccer News' and Soccer America's National Teams of the Week and named WCC Player of the Week. The conference honor is the first of Ballouchy's career, while it is his second such national honor from College Soccer News.
Ballouchy started out his career at SCU with a bang. In the Bronco's season opening tournament, Ballouchy scored two goals and assisted on another to lead SCU to a 2-0 record and the diadora Classic title. The Casa Blanca, Morocco native also picked up diadora Classic MVP honors with his performance.
Less than three minutes into the new season, freshman Peter Lowry scored the first Bronco goal on a cross from Ballouchy to help lead SCU to a 3-0 victory over Massachusetts on Thursday night.
Merely minutes later, Ballouchy would find the back of the net himself, scoring his first goal of the season to put SCU ahead 2-0 only 5:48 minutes into the contest. The goal came on an indirect free kick after a Minuteman defender attempted to pass the ball to goalkeeper Nick Hillman. Ballouchy found a hole through a wall of Massachusetts defenders to increase the early Bronco lead.
On Saturday night, Ballouchy scored the first of four goals for the Broncos with 36:12 remaining in the game to jump start the SCU offense to a 4-1 win over UC Davis. A beautiful pass from Will Weatherly allowed Ballouchy to shake the Aggie defense and put in the score from the left side.
After the successful weekend, Ballouchy paces Santa Clara and the WCC with five points in only two matches.
