Ballouchy Earns Preseason All-America Honors

Aug. 23, 2005

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Santa Clara University junior Mehdi Ballouchy has been honored as a preseason All-America selection by College Soccer News, the online publication announced recently.

Ballouchy, a midfielder from Casablanca, Morocco, transferred to Santa Clara after attending Creighton for one season in 2002. That year, College Soccer News named him to its Freshman All-America team after he led the Bluejays to the NCAA semifinals.

After missing the 2003 season due to NCAA transfer rules, last year he led the Broncos in scoring and was a first-team all-West Coast Conference selection after tying for the league lead in assists with nine. Ballouchy was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for September.

"Mehdi is really one of the special players in the college game this year," said SCU head coach Cameron Rast. "Tactically and technically, he is ahead of all the best in college soccer at this point. I think has the ability to impact a game like few players in college can."
