Feb. 12, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University junior soccer player Peter Lowry has been named to the United States Under-23 national team for training camp and a trip to Japan. U.S. head coach Bob Bradley named 23 players to the roster for training camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson that began Feb. 10. 20 of those players, including Lowry, will accompany the team to Japan next week.

Lowry, a Fair Oaks, Calif. native, is one of four college players named to the roster and will be making his first appearance with the U23 team. As a junior this past season, Lowry scored six goals and notched two assists to tie for the team lead in both goals and assists. He was named second-team All-WCC and also earned a spot on the NSCAA's All-Far West Region First Team. Lowry played half the season in central midfield before making the switch to forward, helping the Broncos reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. His stellar play helped SCU put together a nine-game unbeaten streak and the team earned the No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Lowry was previously a member of the U.S. Under-18 national team, but will look to make his first appearance in a game with the U23s.

During their time in Carson, the U.S. Under-23 team will scrimmage UCLA on Monday, Feb. 12 and Chivas USA on Thursday, Feb. 15. In Japan, the U.S. will face the Japan Under-22 Men's national team on Feb. 21 and a still to be determined J-League team on Feb. 23.
