Santa Clara's Erik Hurtado Named WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference announced Santa Clara junior forward Erik Hurtado as its men's soccer 'Player of the Week' for September 12, 2011. The All-WCC attacker scored twice over the weekend, helping the Broncos improve to 3-1-1 and move into first place in the league standings with a pair of wins over Nebraska-Omaha (4-0) and Cleveland State (2-0).

Hurtado scored SCU's second goal in each match, sealing the win over Cleveland State in the closing moments. The junior from Beaverton, Ore., who was twice named Oregon's 6A Player of the Year as a prep, leads the Broncos and ranks among the league leaders in most offensive categories, including goals (three), points (eight), shots (19) and shots on goal (11).
