Mens Soccer Sweep Gonzaga; Carlos Montes with Second Game-Winner of the Weekend

SPOKANE, Wash. – With an attendance of 1,148 at Gonzaga, the Bronco men's soccer team (8-8-0, 5-3-0 WCC) edged the Bulldogs (8-4-3, 3-2-3 WCC) for the second time this season.

The Bulldogs led the Broncos in shots 16-4 and shots on goal 4-4 but it was Santa Clara's seniors Harrison Hanley and Carlos Montes who knocked in a goal each to secure the win for the Broncos.

"We knew coming into this match we would need to prove we could win," said Bronco head coach Cameron Rast. "We didn't start the game well but got stronger as the game wore on. The two goals from the two seniors is exactly what you want from them. Harrison's goal evened the game and gave us the confidence to play for the result and, for the second game in a row, Carlos provided a fantastic strike for the game-winner. It was a tremendous weekend for the men."

The Broncos will now continue WCC play at home vs. Saint Mary's on Fri., Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., which you can watch live on TheWtv, then they head up to the city to face USF on Sun., Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.

The Broncos conceded a Bulldog goal just one minute into the match. Parker Victor dribbled the ball down the right flank to cross into the Broncos' box for Conner Bevans to one-time to the back of the net.

The Broncos didn't let up, battling the next 20 minutes until Michael Gates laid off a pass to Hanley at the top of the Bulldogs' box for a shot far post to even the score 1-1.

Five minutes after half time, Santa Clara struck again when a Bronco throw-in gave Montes the angle to put away the game-winner. The Broncos held the score until the final whistle, giving them a 2-1 victory.
