SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 70 Santa Clara men's tennis team hosts the Harvard Crimson on Saturday, March 31 on Alumni Day at the Degheri Tennis Center. The match begins at 3 p.m. PT, preceded by a barbecue for alumni tennis players that begins at 1 p.m. PT. The Broncos will be looking to win their third straight match after defeating Montana State and Brigham Young in the past two matches.
-Harvard has played three matches in California this week, defeating Pacific (6-1) and Stanford (5-2), while losing to Fresno State (4-3).
-Santa Clara defeated Harvard 4-3 in 2000 in the only other meeting between the teams. The Crimson was ranked No. 24 in the country at the time and it was the first win by SCU over a ranked team in program history. Matt Cox clinched the win for Santa Clara.
-Santa Clara has won 11 of its past 12 matches and four in a row on the road.
-Blane Shields is a perfect 8-0 in dual match singles this season and he has also won his last seven doubles matches. He has won six with Robert Gallman and one with Kevin McQuaid and has not lost in doubles since Feb. 19.
-Robert Gallman and Blane Shields are a perfect 6-0 in doubles together. The pair won its first match together on March 2 against Portland and has not lost.
-Robert Gallman has won two straight singles matches to move to 8-6 on dual match season.
-Santa Clara has been dominant at No. 2 doubles, posting a 16-3 record for the year in that spot. Five different pairs have won matches at No. 2.
-Bobby Rasmussen can move into sole possession of sixth place in career singles wins with a victory against Harvard. He is 60-48 all-time.
-Jan Macek and Bobby Rasmussen are 16-5 in doubles this year. The pair is within four victories of tying Kevin McQuaid/Blane Shields for first all-time in single season doubles wins.
