Shields and McQuaid Fall In Second Round At Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships

Tulsa, Okla. - Santa Clara men's tennis doubles team Blane Shields and Kevin McQuaid dropped a second round match to Boris Gubic and Goran Vujaklija of Wichita State 8-4 at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships on Tuesday afternoon on the campus of the University of Tulsa. The Broncos duo received a bye in the first round before falling in round two. McQuaid and Shields will now return to Santa Clara to compete in the team's season-opening tournament this weekend, the Bronco Classic.

After a stellar 2005-06 season, McQuaid and Shields were the only two Broncos in attendance at the All-American Championships. If they had won two matches, they would have reached the main draw of the tournament. Last year, they won a team-record 20 matches as a doubles combination.

The Bronco Classic kicks off the men's tennis season this weekend as Santa Clara hosts 20 teams from Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8. The draw includes four West Coast Conference schools and a number of highly ranked opponents.
