SANTA CLARA, Calif. - This week the Santa Clara men's tennis team will take a two match break from its eight match home stand to travel to Stanford to take on The Cardinal on Tuesday, Apr. 13, followed by a trip to Sacramento State on Thursday, Apr. 15. The Broncos will close out this final week of regular season play with their final home match and Senior Day on Saturday, Apr. 17 versus West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary's. No. 65 Santa Clara is currently 14-5 on the season, 2-1 in WCC play.
The Broncos are coming off of two strong wins this past weekend versus Pacific and Loyola Marymount. SCU defeated Pacific with a final score of 6-1, winning all six singles points after narrowly dropping the doubles point. In its conference match versus LMU, Santa Clara came out with a strong 5-2 victory.
"We are playing three tough teams this week," said Bronco head coach Derek Mills. "Stanford is one of the top teams in the country and Sacramento State is just outside of the nation's top 75 teams, so those will be two tough road matches for us. We end the week with Senior Day on Saturday versus Saint Mary's and are looking to build some momentum heading into the West Coast Conference tournament."
Stanford is currently ranked 7th in the nation with a 15-5 season record. The Cardinal is coming off of Saturday's clean 7-0 sweep of No. 72 Oregon and will host SCU on Apr. 13 at 3:00 p.m. Sacramento State is 15-8 on the season and will take on San Diego this afternoon before hosting the Broncos on Thursday, Apr. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
Santa Clara finishes out the week and the regular season hosting Saint Mary's (5-12, 1-3 WCC) on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 12:00 p.m. Saturday's match is the final home match for seniors Brian Brogan and Jay Wong. Details regarding Saturday's Senior Day match will follow throughout the week.
