Dec. 9, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's basketball team returns to the court Sunday in a 2 p.m. contest against Cal Poly after taking the last week off for final exams.

It is "Meet the Team" and "Bronco Kidz" day at the Leavey Center with a free poster giveaway and postgame autograph session.

The Broncos are 4-2 overall with wins over two top-25 ranked teams - Utah and Washington - this season. Santa Clara has won three of its last four games but dropped its most recent decision at fifth-ranked Stanford last weekend.

Santa Clara is led by junior Julie Butler's 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Three players are in double figures in scoring with Caroline Gruening averaging 10.8 points and Becki Ashbaugh contributing 10.7 points per contest.

Cal Poly is 1-4 overall and has not played since a 54-46 loss at Loyola Marymount on Nov. 28. The Mustangs are led by Odessa Jenkins and Katie Paterson, who combine for 21.2 of the team's 59.4 points per game.

Santa Clara returns to the Leavey Center on Dec. 19 against Temple in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
