John Wojtkiewicz is in his sixth season as women's rowing head coach at Santa Clara in 2015-16. Combining his tenure as head men's rowing coach at the University of Rhode Island and working with both the men's and women's programs at his alma mater, Boston University, Wojtkiewicz brought over 15 years of coaching experience, 10 years in Division I, to the Mission Campus in Santa Clara.
The program continues to grow under Wojtkiewicz' leadership, with a deeper roster, new equipment, and new standards for training and racing. While at Santa Clara, the team has had 8 WCC All-conference honorees, and 7 CRCA scholar-athletes. In 2015 the Varsity 8 posted its second fastest time in program history at the WCC Championships.
An outstanding oarsman during his collegiate career at BU, Wojtkiewicz returned to the Boston campus in 2000 to help coach the Terrier men's team from 2000-2003 and the women's team from 2005-2007. Wojtkiewicz focused on developing BU's youngest athletes, helping build the Terriers into NCAA Women's Rowing Championship qualifiers in 2006.
Wojtkiewicz has a diverse background in professional leadership. He has worked as an intelligence analyst at the Impole Corporation in Watham, Mass. and represented The Yankee Group in Boston. More recently he was sales analyst for Canon Communications in Santa Monica, Calif. where he also served as the Varsity Rowing Coach at the Marina Aquatic Center Junior Rowing Club in Marina Del Rey.
His coaching experience started with running both the men’s and women’s rowing programs at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts from 1996-1998. Wojtkiewicz is a 1995 graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.
