PULLMAN, Wash. – Freshman Annie Freman placed ninth and junior Kaci McCartan finished in a tie for 10th leading the Santa Clara women's golf team to a fourth place standing in the 12-team Cougar Cup completed today in rainy conditions at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
Freman captured her third top-10 finish in as many collegiate events shooting a final round 4-over-par 76 and ending tournament play with a 10-over 226. She had a one-shot advantage over McCartan, who fired a 3-over 75 in today's final round, and finished at 11-over (227). Washington State's Mallory Kent shot a 4-under-par 212 to claim individual honors by seven shots.
With a career-best finish of 11th entering this season, McCartan has a tournament title and a top-10 placing in each of her last two events.
The Broncos matched their first round score with a final round 312 and finished 34 shots behind winner and tournament host Washington State with a three-round total of 920. Santa Clara scored its third-best round of the season with 296 over the middle 18 holes.
One week after having three top-10 finishers, the Broncos placed a trio among the top 20 with senior Taylor Camany claiming a share of 18th place in the 77-player field. Camany shot rounds 77, 75 and 80 for a 16-over 232.
After three consecutive weeks of tournament play, the Broncos will be off until October 12 when they compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.
