FRESNO, Calif. – Senior Annie Freman, the tournament's defending champion, scored a second-round 1-under 71 to move into a sixth-place tie, leading the Santa Clara's women golf team to a ninth-place tie after two rounds of the Fresno State Classic.

Freman, who has a program record six individual titles, is tied with four other golfers at 3-over 147. It will be a challenge to overtake second round leader Martina Edberg of Cal State Fullerton, who leads the field by two strokes at 4-under 140.

The Broncos struggled to a 310 in the first round, but with Freman's 71 and a 1-over 73 from Kristin Le, rebounded with a 303 over the final 18 holes of the day. They still trail UC Irvine by 17 strokes for the top spot.

"Round three is known as moving day," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "And we have plenty of room for improvement. We need to work on our ball placement coming into the greens and be more diligent in our process. Sticking to our game plan is going to be critical."

Le shaved four shots off her first round score and holds down 19th place with a 6-over 150.

"Annie and Kristin both played well in the second round," Kelly added. "It was great to see some low scores. They both played well tee to green and I think they will lead us to a good round tomorrow."

The Broncos could use some help on the backend of the lineup in Tuesday's final round. Chloe Wong carded a second-round 78 and is tied for 37th at 11-over 155. Kyleigh Moreno and Isabella Salant both scored in the 80s to affect the overall team score.

With a two-round total of 161, Moreno is tied for 59th, one shot better than Salant, who scored rounds of 80 and 82.

Competing as an individual, Isabella Seeburger shot rounds of 77 and 82 to tie for 54th at 15-over 159.

Final round play begins with an 8:30 a.m. PT shotgun start. Live scoring is available at Golfstatresults.com.
