MARICOPA, Ariz. – Santa Clara women's golf scored under 300 in all three rounds for the first time this season, including a program-best 286 in Monday's first-round, to finish fourth in the 20-team Wyoming Cowgirl Classic with an 882 total at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
The Broncos carded a final-round 299 on Tuesday to slip a spot on the team leaderboard, finishing five-shots behind fellow WCC member San Francisco for third. Sacramento State won the team title by 22-strokes over New Mexico State with an 854 total. Santa Clara earned its sixth top-5 finish in nine events.
"Overall it was a great tournament," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "It's a great confidence builder going into conference."
Individually the Broncos were led by senior Kristin Le, who tied for ninth-place at even-par 216 after a final-round 75. It was Le's 25th career top-10 finish. Le ended five-shots behind medalist Sofie Babich of Sacramento State.
Freshman Emily Sumner capped off her career-best 54-hole score by shooting a final-round 74 to tie for 25th-place at 5-over 221.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Marni Murez had the Broncos low-round of the day with an even-par 72. She jumped 17 spots into a tie for 43rd with a pair of golfers at 225.
The Broncos will take a few weeks off to get ready for the WCC Championship, which is scheduled to begin on April 16 at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee, Calif.
