SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 24 Santa Clara women's soccer team concluded the Santa Clara/adidas Classic with a, 0-0, draw to Yale. This is the first tie for the Broncos on the year.
Forward Kiki Bosio and goal keeper Meagan McCray both were named to the Santa Clara/adidas Classic All-Tournament team. Bosio led SCU's offensive attack throughout the weekend, working to create several scoring opportunities. McCray, who took keeper duties in today's game, played 110 minutes at goal. Not only was she able to keep Yale scoreless throughout the entire game, but helped lead the Broncos defense to not allow the Bulldogs to break through and get on the board.
Chelsea Bednarz earned her second career start at forward and played substantial minutes. She was the top shooter for Santa Clara, shooting six shots, two of which were on goal. Junior defender Katherine Reynolds had major offensive contributions, firing off three shots throughout the game, as well. Eight different Broncos had shots in the game, to tally 15 total to Yale's eight.
Throughout the game, Santa Clara came out very aggressive and eager to try to capitalize on offensive opportunities. This is the second game in a row that the Broncos have gone into extra time, as Friday's loss to Cal Poly ended, 2-1, in the first overtime period. After ending the second overtime period today, the Broncos improved their record to, 3-5-1, and were able to stay out of the loss column for the first time in four games.
Santa Clara has a short week this week, as they take on No. 2 UCLA on Thursday, Sept. 25, at home at 8 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on Fox Soccer Channel.
