  • Broncos Set Commissioner's Honor Roll Record for Second Straight Year

    Broncos Set Commissioner's Honor Roll Record for Second Straight Year The West Coast Conference announced its 13th annual Commissioner's Honor Roll Tuesday, and 141 Santa Clara Broncos were recognized with honors for their athletic success and academic excellence. Santa Clara had 18 student-athletes receive gold honors (3.75-4.00 GPA) and 33 student-athletes receive silver honors (3.50-3.74 GPA). The Broncos set a new record of student athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, breaking the previous mark of 133 in the 2012-13 school year.

The Broncos will face the Sacramento Storm for the second time on Sun., May 4 at 3 p.m. at Buck Shaw in the final game of the spring season. Earlier this spring season Santa Clara and the Storm tied 1-1.

Oyen served in the same role last season in a volunteer capacity. This is the first time in the history of Santa Clara women’s soccer that the Broncos will have a full-time Director of Operations.

    Santa Clara Extends Jerry Smith's Contract Seven Years; Announces Jerry Smith Coaching For Life Academy Santa Clara University announced on Wednesday it has extended Bronco head women's soccer coach Jerry Smith’s contract for seven years. Smith is one of only three coaches in Division I women’s soccer to have won more than 400 career matches. In addition to leading the Broncos to the 2001 National Championship, Smith has seen the women reach the Final Four 10 times as well as winning 10 West Coast Conference titles in his 27-year history with the program.

Smith’s Broncos have advanced to 10 Final Fours and won 10 West Coast Conference titles.

    Women's Soccer Looks Back on Successful 2013 Season For the Santa Clara women’s soccer team, the season started and ended in Virginia. But that’s about the only similarity between the No. 20 Broncos who kicked off their season vs. No. 1 North Carolina and the No. 9 Broncos that fell in penalty kicks at No. 4 Virginia Tech in the Sweet 16. The early-season Broncos looked overmatched vs. two of the top teams in the country on the opening weekend but by the end of the year was one of the most dangerous teams in the country. While the season ended in disappointing fashion, the Broncos finished one of the program’s most successful years in the last decade with a No. 7 ranking.

Her senior year the team lost 2-1 in overtime in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Notre Dame She is now happy and healthy living in Davenport, Iowa. She is a pastor’s wife and mother of three wonderful little kids.

    Two Broncos Named All-American, Four Named First Team All-West Region The same week head coach Jerry Smith was named the 2013 NSCAA West Region Women’s Coach of the Year, two Santa Clara women’s soccer players were named 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women’s All-Americans and four were named First Team NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women’s All-West Region. Senior Julie Johnston was named first team on both lists while Sofia Huerta was First Team All-Region and Third Team All-American. Seniors Morgan Marlborough and Ellie Rice were honored as All-West selections.

Smith led the Broncos to a 14-4-2 mark overall and a share of the West Coast Conference title with an 8-1-0 mark in conference action. This is the time Smith has been honored with the award.

The tie ends the Broncos at 16-4-2 overall while the Hokies are 18-4-3.
