Broncos Fall to Host Virginia in Klockner Classic Finale

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Playing its second top-10 team of the weekend, Santa Clara women's soccer fell to No. 8 Virginia 4-0. The Broncos fall to 0-2-0 while the Cavaliers moved to 2-0-0.

Santa Clara returns to the field for its home-opener on Aug. 29 vs. Long Beach State at 7 p.m.

The Broncos were outshot 18-3 and 9-1 in shots on goal. Sarah Jackson, Brittany Ambrose and Ashley Doyle each had one shot for Santa Clara while Ambrose had the lone shot on goal. Andi Tostanoski made five saves in net.

Makenzy Doniak and Morgan Brian each had four shots while Doniak put all four shots on goal. Both players added one goal and Brittany Ratcliffe scored two goals to lead the office. Morgan Stearns made one save in goal.

Virginia got the scoring going in the 32nd minute off the foot of Ratcliffe. Doniak and Kate Norbo both assisted on the second goal of the season for Ratcliffe. Doniak crossed the ball and Ratcliffe tapped the ball into an empty net to make the score 1-0.

The Cavaliers would come out and score three goals in the second half to seal the 4-0 win. Doniak scored on a penalty kick after a yellow card was given to Tostanoski, Brian blasted out from just outside the penalty box, and Ratcliffe added her second of the game.

Game Notes: Santa Clara is now 2-4-1 all-time vs. Virginia … Santa Clara's last win vs. a top-10 team was vs. No. 3 Pepperdine 1-0 on Oct. 28, 2011.
