Women's Soccer Hosts Alumni Weekend
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With a long history of success, Santa Clara women's soccer has no shortage of alumni that have contributed the program's place in the national spotlight. At halftime of the Broncos 2-1 victory over BYU on Oct. 13, the Broncos welcomed back several alums and honored them on the field.
"It's wonderful to have the alumni on campus", said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith, in his 27th season at the helm of the Broncos. "What was really fun for me was seeing how the alumni connected across generations. We had alums that graduated last year connecting very well with alums from my first season here in 1987 that were celebrating their 25th reunion. To see everyone enjoying sharing the common thread of having played in our program was really special."
Santa Clara's list of on-field accomplishments include: 10 Final Fours, seven WCC Player of the Year Awards, seven WCC Freshmen of the Year, seven WCC defenders of the year, four National Players of the Year, three U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Years, two M.A.C. Hermann Trophy winners, and one National Championship.
The Broncos have also received recognition for their players performing in the classroom. Some honors include: four WCC Scholar-Athletes of the year, three NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship Recipients, three Verizon Academic All-District selections, and two NCSAA/adidas Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
The Broncos return to the field on Fri., Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. at Saint Mary's.
