Huerta Named 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's Third Team All-American
For the second time in as many years, Sofia Huerta of Santa Clara women’s soccer has been honored on the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's All-America Team. Huerta was a Third Team selection and was one of three West Coast Conference players to receive honors.

Huerta Up for Soccer News Net College Boot
After a tremendous season that saw her named co-WCC Player of the Year and First Team All-WCC, Sofia Huerta of Santa Clara women’s soccer is up for yet another award. Huerta is on the fan ballot for the Soccer News Net College Boot, given to the Player of the Year in Division I soccer.

Tremendous Season by Women's Soccer Not Overshadowed by Difficult End
Coming off a 14-win season, Santa Clara women’s soccer fell just short of the 25th NCAA Tournament appearance in the program’s rich history. Santa Clara finished with an RPI of 49, the third lowest to not the make the tournament. After sitting at 4-4 through eight games, Santa Clara finished the season 12-2, including 7-2 in the tough West Coast Conference. This is the first time in the history of the WCC that the second place team did not make the NCAA Tournament.

EYEBRONCO: Bronco of the Month (September & October)
SAAC has nominated the October Broncos of the Month! For a quick recap, our September winners were Brittany Ambrose and Andrew Papenfus. Brittany: Scored four game-winning goals this season. Her hard work off the field has been recognized by her team. She has been a key player this season. She works hard, is determined to do well, and wants to win. She is a great model of a Bronco Athlete. (WOMEN'S SOCCER) Andrew: Went through brain surgery and still had a good attitude. Once he came back, he was ready to start working to get back onto the court. Everyone has noticed this dedication and wanted to recognize him for it. (MEN'S BASKETBALL) Our October winners are our volleyball team and Kurt Ruegg. Volleyball Team: Had a weekend sweep against ranked teams. They've been playing really well all season. Their team chemistry seems better and everyone is focused. It's great to see that a whole team is working its hardest to achieve the ultimate goal. (VOLLEYBALL) Kurt Ruegg: Broke the school record for the 8k on October 18 at the Bronco Invite and broke it again on November 1st, at the West Coast Conference. He's a red shirt from Harvard that walked onto our team this year. He has been our number one men's runner consistently all season. Huerta Co-Player of the Year, Tostanoski Goalkeeper of the Year; Four Other Broncos Honored by WCC
For the second time in as many years, the West Coast Conference Player of the Year comes from Santa Clara women’s soccer. Senior Sofia Huerta was named co-Player of the Year while Andi Tostanoski was Goalkeeper of the Year. Both Huerta and Tostanoski were also named All-WCC First Team while Brittany Ambrose was All-WCC Second Team. Dani Weatherholt was Honorable Mention while Jenna Holtz was Honorable Mention and All-Freshman. Mariana Galvan also made the All-Freshman team.

Broncos Top Saint Mary's 3-0 on Senior Day
In the final game of the regular season on Senior Day, Santa Clara women’s soccer topped Saint Mary’s by a final of 3-0. The win puts the Broncos at 14-6-0 overall and 7-2-0 in WCC play while the Gaels finish 7-10-3 and 1-5-3 in conference action.

Eight Women's Soccer Players Honored for Work in the Classroom
Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Santa Clara women’s soccer had eight players recognized on the 2014 West Coast Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team. Sofia Huerta and Andi Tostanoski were named to the team while Megan Crosson, Kat McAuliffe, Katie Speidel, Stephanie Sorg, Julie Vass, and Dani Weatherholt were honorable mention. Huerta was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team selection.

Critical Game for Women's Soccer vs. Saint Mary's Set for Senior Day
With just one more game in the regular season, Santa Clara women’s soccer hosts Saint Mary’s on Sat., Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. Last week Santa Clara topped Gonzaga 3-0 and used a late goal to beat Portland 1-0. The Broncos are 13-6-0 overall and 6-2-0 in conference play this year.

On this week's edition of the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap, co-hosts Denzel Johnson from the men's basketball team and Nici Gilday from the women's basketball team give a quick update on the latest Bronco sports news. This edition features interviews, highlights, pictures and bloopers that you won't want to miss! EyeBronco first gets an inside look to the Volleyball team’s very successful two win weekend. On Thursday night, the team had a huge win over No. 11 BYU in three straight sets. Then they battled through a five set match to beat top-ranked San Diego on Saturday. Volleyball has beaten four top 25 teams this season. It was the first time a West Coast Conference team has swept both BYU and San Diego in the same weekend since BYU joined the league three years ago. Yannick Atanga spoke to Player of the Week Nikki Hess about the weekend. Women’s soccer had two games in Buck Shaw this weekend and walked away with two conference wins. They defeated Gonzaga on Friday night, 3-0, behind the goals from Sofia Huerta and Mariana Galvan. Then on Sunday, Huerta was able to score a last minute goal to lift the Broncos over Portland, 1-0. Huerta leads the team with 15 goals on the season. After the Portland match, EyeBronco heard from Huerta and goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski about the final weekends of the season. This Wrap also features EyeBronco interviews over the past week with Kelly Ryan and Kurt Reugg from cross country. They hosted the WCC Championships at Baylands Park on Saturday. The team totaled nine PR runs, including a school record of 23:52 by senior Kurt Ruegg in the men's 8k race. Ruegg finished 16th overall while the team came in 5th. Huerta Nabs Second WCC Player of the Week Honor of 2014
For the second time this season, Santa Clara women’s soccer senior forward Sofia Huerta was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week. Huerta led the Broncos to two wins over the weekend while scoring three goals. Huerta was also named Player of the Week after a hat trick vs. Fresno State in September.

Pair of Important Conference Games for Women's Soccer on Tap at Buck Shaw
Heading into the second to last weekend of the season, Santa Clara women’s soccer plays two matches at Buck Shaw. On Fri., Oct. 31 the Broncos face Gonzaga at 7 p.m. and on Sun., Nov. 2 Santa Clara faces rival Portland at 2 p.m. The Portland game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and WatchESPN.com. Last week Santa Clara split a pair of road games with a loss at No. 19 BYU and a 3-1 win at San Diego. The Broncos are now 11-6-0 on the season and 4-2-0 in West Coast Conference play.

2014 SCU Women's Soccer Alumni Day Set for Sat., Nov. 8th
Santa Clara Bronco women's soccer alumnae, please join us on Sat., Nov. 8th. Our 2014 alumni day event surrounds our last home match of the year (Senior Day) versus rival St. Mary's College at Buck Shaw Stadium. For this event, we will have a pre-game gathering starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by a halftime recognition of all attending alumnae. Following the match we will be hosting a post-game BBQ with the current team and the newest women's soccer alumns in Alumni Park at the Locatelli Center (adjacent to Buck Shaw and our new soccer complex - which is currently under construction!).

In a wild game, Santa Clara women’s soccer fell to No. 19 BYU by a final of 5-2. In eight previous games against BYU, Santa Clara had surrendered just three total goals. Athletics Excited to Have Aly Wagner ’03 on Six 2014 Soccer Broadcasts
Scoring the game-winning goal of the Broncos' 2001 NCAA title game vs. UNC, Santa Clara is excited to welcome back Bronco women’s soccer alumnus Aly Wagner ’03! Wagner will work along side play-by-play announcer David Gentile as the color commentator on six Bronco soccer matches this fall. Three of those matches will be in September, including Friday’s tilt for the women vs. Notre Dame and the men's soccer match vs. Cal on Sept. 26. The pair will also call the women's match vs. Dayton and three West Coast Conference matches.

Julie Johnston Named National Women's Soccer League Rookie of the Year
Former Bronco women’s soccer All-American Julie Johnston was named the National Women’s Soccer League 2014 Rookie of the Year. Johnston was the No. 3 overall selection in the draft last year. She scored two goals and added two assists in 21 games during her rookie season with the Chicago Red Stars.

Coming off an appearance in the Sweet 16, Santa Clara women’s soccer, ranked No. 10 in the country, is almost ready to start the 2014 season and try to make the 25th NCAA Tournament in program history. The Broncos will open the season Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. vs. UC Irvine. Last year Santa Clara finished 16-4-2 overall and 8-1-0 in the West Coast Conference en route to a share of the 10th conference title in program history.

Women's Soccer Has Two Named to Preseason All-WCC Team
Santa Clara women’s soccer had two players named to the 2014 All-WCC Preseason Team on Tuesday. Senior Sofia Huerta, recently named to the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List, and sophomore Jordan Jesolva were the two Broncos honored. Santa Clara was also picked to finish third in the WCC behind BYU and Portland. The Broncos, Cougars, and Pilots all received three first place votes from the league’s coaches, with San Diego picking up the final first place vote.

Sofia Huerta Named to M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List
With her team ranked No. 10 in the country, Sofia Huerta of Santa Clara women’s soccer was named to the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List. Huerta, a senior from Boise, Idaho, was named Third Team All-American, First Team All-West Region, and First Team All-WCC.

Women's Soccer Starts Season Ranked in Top-10
With the first official practice in the books, Santa Clara women’s soccer starts the 2014 season ranked No. 10 in the country in the initial NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I rankings. The Broncos finished 2013 ranked No. 7 in the country with a record of 16-4-2 after failing to advance in a Sweet 16 matchup at Virginia Tech in penalty kicks.
