Curtis McAlister is beginning his 15th season as an assistant coach in 2017. In addition to being the recruiting coordinator, he works with the back line players and goalkeepers.
As a proven recruiter and coach, McAlister has helped the Broncos win 174 matches in 14 seasons, qualify for 13 NCAA tournaments, win 23 NCAA tournament matches and advance all the way to the Final Four in 2004.
A native of Modesto, Calif., McAlister came from Washington State University, where he spent four years as an assistant, working with all aspects of the program in addition to being the recruiting coordinator. Upon his departure, the Cougars had achieved the program's best finish ever in the Pacific-10 Conference (third) and their highest-ever national ranking (19th).
In addition to being a USSF licensed coach, McAlister brings seven years of professional playing experience to the Bronco program (1991-97), and in 1995, he was a member of the U.S. National Futsal Team. He was also a member of the Major Soccer League champion San Diego Sockers in 1992.
Between 1991 and `94, McAlister spent his off-season coaching goalkeepers on both the men's and women's teams at his alma mater, San Diego State University. He also served as head coach for a variety of youth club teams during his time as a professional player. Since 1997, McAlister has been a summer camp instructor at Santa Clara.
McAlister has also served as the head goalkeeper coach for the Olympic Development Program West Region and as an assistant with U.S. Soccer National Youth Teams.
He also serves as an age group coach for the newly formed California Thorns (a Girls Development Academy) in addition to being a coach within the DeAnza Force for 14 years.
McAlister, a 1991 graduate of San Diego State with a bachelor's degree in economics, earned three varsity letters with the Aztecs, after transferring from Fresno State University.
McAlister resides in Santa Cruz with his wife, Felicia Billey, whom he married in August 2003. They are proud parents of daughters Ruby, born in March 2006, and Maisie, born in February 2009.
