Big Sixth Lifts No. 3 UCLA Over Softball

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Despite being scoreless through five, No. 3 UCLA's offense exploded for eight runs in the sixth to top Santa Clara softball 8-0 in six innings Sunday to conclude the San Diego Classic.

The big blow in the decisive sixth with a grand slam by Rachel Garcia after two walks and a single started the inning. The Bruins (19-0) loaded the bases again in the inning, this time with two outs, and used a single and a double to bring in four more runs.

Kylee Perez and Aaliyah Jordan both added two RBIs on the day and Garcia had a pair of hits as well.

Garcia (8-0) went the distance in the circle, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out six.

Micaela Vierra started for the Broncos (2-13) and tossed 3 shutout innings while allowing two hits and striking out one. Aubree Kim (1-7) picked up the loss while allowing three runs on two hits with four walks in 2-plus innings out of the bullpen.

Morgan Modesto's single to lead off the third was the only hit for Santa Clara. Three Broncos also reached via a walk.
