Women's Tennis Tops Portland 4-3

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over West Coast Conference opponent Portland this afternoon at the Pilots' LP Tennis Center. The Broncos' record improves to 3-4, 2-0, while the Pilots' record falls to 1-7, 0-1.

Freshman Kimberly Daniel clinched the team victory for the second time this season, this occasion was marked by a 6-4, 7-5 win over Alyson Tyson on the fifth singles court. After being swept in doubles play, Santa Clara won four of the six singles matches to earn the team victory. Janalle Kaloi and Nicole Jackson also picked up straight-set victories, while Kelly Leathers came from behind to defeat Jaclyn Soltysik 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The Broncos return to the SCU Tennis Center to begin a five-match homestand. Santa Clara will host Saint Mary's in continuing league action on Friday at 3 p.m. and will play UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 1 p.m.
