Santa Clara, Calif. - Women's tennis head coach Damon Coupe announced a change in the 2006 schedule today. Rather than play West Coast Conference rival Gonzaga at noon on Saturday, the originally scheduled time of the match, the two teams will dual it out this Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The contest will be held at the Spokane Athletic Club.
Currently sitting at 2-4 on the year, Santa Clara will continue its road trip through the state of Washington with a match against Pac-10 rival Washington State on Friday. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
Leading the way for the Broncos this season has been junior Kelly Leathers, who holds down the No. 1 position. She has received help in the singles line-up from two outstanding freshmen, Samantha Georgino and Stephanie Galainena, and a host of juniors in Kim Daniel, Casey Knutson, and Erika Barnes. Santa Clara returns home to the Degheri Tennis Center on March 9, when it battles South Bay rival San Jose State in a continuing battle for points in the Rivalry Series, a year-long competition between the schools 13 varsity sports.
