BERKELEY, Calif.- The freshmen on the Santa Clara women's tennis team gave impressive performances in their respective draws on Friday at Day 1 of the Cal Invitational. Courtney Hull defeated her San Francisco opponent in a three-set match 6-1,4-6,6-3 in the Quarterfinals of the White Singles flight. Meanwhile, three of the upperclassmen on the team faced difficult opponents in the Gold Singles draw of the tournament.
In the Gold Singles draw of the tournament, Lindsay McBride, Myra Davoudi, and Stephanie Galainena all lost their matches in the Round of 32. Davoudi played in the first consolation round of the draw where she was defeated by her opponent from the University of the Pacific 6-2, 6-3.
In the Blue Singles draw, Kwong was deafeated in her first match against Erin Young from St. Mary's 6-3, 6-1 to In the consolation round of the bracket, Carmen Pham picked up a win in a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Feline Charlot from St. Mary's.
The White Singles draw, Courntey Hull gave a solid performance to outlast her opponent from San Francisco in a three-set match where she earned her win 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
The doubles matches were equally as grueling for the Broncos as the team of Davoudi and Galainena fell to opponents from Cal in the Gold Doubles draw. The Blue Doubles were more successful as the team of McBride and Pham played a tough match against their opponents from Cal where they won 8-4. Kwong and Pane played a close match against partners from Arizona State where they were finally defeated 8-4.
