Women's Tennis Set to Host Sonoma State, Pacific

Feb. 5, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif - The women's tennis team will return to Degheri Center this week to host Sonoma State on Friday, February 6 at 1:00 pm, and Pacific on Saturday, February 7 at 1:00 pm. The Broncos are currently 1-2 this season after last week's loss to UC Davis.

"We expect to do very well against Sonoma State," said head coach Ben Cabell. "With the Pacific match the following day we're going to give a few players a rest during the Sonoma match and work in some new faces into the lineup. Pacific has a very strong team this year so will be a good test to see if we can keep up with them."

Last Time Out
Santa Clara was defeated by UC Davis 5-2 at Davis on January 30. The match was the Broncos' first road trip of the season. Sophomore Carmen Phan and freshman Kacie Wagner won their match 8-6 against Sidney Brady and Jenna Kappel to earn one doubles win for the day. Phan and fellow sophomore Ashley Pane picked up two singles wins for the match with their wins against Herzyl Legaspi 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 and Jenna Kappel 7-5, 6-2.

Scouting Sonoma State
Sonoma State will begin their season this week with matches against Sierra College, Academy of Art, and the Broncos. Head coach Tracey Prince returns for her 13th season at Sonoma State, after leading her team to an 11th straight West Regional Division II playoff berth last season.
