Broncos Edged Out by Pacific 4-3

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers defeated the Broncos 4-3 in a close loss at Degheri Center on Saturday afternoon. The Broncos are now 1-3 this season while Pacific improves to 2-3.

The Broncos started off strong in doubles, with senior Stephanie Galainena and sophomore Ashley Pane defeating Pacific's Jenifer Widjajay and Olga Gumenyuk winning their first match 8-6. Senior Myra Davoudi and sophomore Carmen Phan also won their match against Jolanta Twarowska and Sasha Fisher 8-6 to secure the doubles point for the Broncos.

In singles, freshman Kacie Wagner defeated Kateryna Nezhura 6-4, 6-3, and Pane picked up another win against Clara Schumacher 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. In the third and final match victory for Pacific, Pham and Pacific's Svenja Arens battled to go to three full sets and two tiebreaks to give Pacific the win 6-2, 6-7 (10), 7-6 (7).

"It was a tough loss for us today, to be within one point," said head coach Ben Cabell. "I'm really proud of the team, they fought very hard and our doubles teams really stepped up today."

The Broncos will take on Fresno Pacific this Tuesday, February 10th, at Degheri Center.
