SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's tennis team will take on the San Jose State Spartans in a Rivalry Series match this Thursday, February 19. The Broncos are currently 2-5 this season with last Saturday's 4-3 win over Northern Arizona. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Degheri Center.
"Since this is a Rivalry Series match, it will be a big match for us," said head coach Ben Cabell. "Being ready for them is a bit of a challenge because of the rain, but we've been playing well at home and we're much stronger at this point in the season than we were last season. We have a lot more depth and confidence this season, and it should be a good match."
Last Time Out
The Santa Clara Broncos edged Northern Arizona, 4-3, last Saturday at Degheri Center. After dropping the doubles point to the Lumberjacks, the Broncos bounced back to win four of the six singles matches to take home the win. Freshmen Kimmi Cox and Kacie Wagner each posted two wins for the day with their individual singles wins and their combined doubles win against Northern Arizona's Yumi Hasegawa and Aimee Oki, 8-4. Cox earned her first singles win and dual match win of the season. Additionally, sophomore transfer Kelly Buckley made her Bronco debut in singles play.
Last Match Against San Jose State
San Clara swept past San Jose State in a 6-1 victory on March 5, 2008. The Broncos took the doubles point and then earned victories in five out of the six singles matches on the day to earn the win.
