Nov. 18, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Bronco women's tennis team completed their successful fall season at the Irvine tournament this past weekend. The Broncos competed in four tournaments during the fall and will resume match play in January.

Freshmen Kelly Lamble and Alex Zaniewski and sophomore Kacie Wagner all placed third in their draws after defeating Northern Arizona opponents. Lamble defeated NAU's Orsi Golovics 6-0, 6-0, to place third in the Blue Singles bracket, while Zaniewski defeated Malia Whainepio 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to earn third place in the Red Singles bracket. Wagner outplayed NAU's Edit Suhajda, 6-2, 6-0 to win third place in the Gold Singles bracket.

"I'm very happy with the overall results," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "We've been getting better with every match that we play. On the way to the semi-finals we were able to beat some key players from other WCC schools so that is always a good feeling."

Now that the fall season is over, Cabell and his team are excited and ready for the coming winter. "We've improved tremendously during the fall. The team and I are ready to play against other teams and we're really looking forward to the winter."

The Broncos will resume match play on January 24th, 2010 against Hawai'i at 2:00 p.m.
