Santa Clara, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's tennis team swept the University of Portland squad in a 7-0 victory, during which, freshman Carolina O'Haren won her first dual collegiate match. The Broncos are 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the WCC.
After losing the first set 1-6, O'Haren rallied to win the match with a 6-2 second set victory and a 10-7 tiebreaker win in the third set. "I'm really proud of her, " said head coach Ben Cabell of the freshman. "She did a great job in her first dual outing, and came through in a tight situation on the court."
In addition, Sophomore Alex Zaniewski also tallied a third set tiebreaker win at the three spot, and the Broncos won all three doubles matches, which the Broncos had not accomplished since the February 13 victory over Kansas.
"It was really nice to win all three doubles matches," said Cabell. "We are looking forward to finishing up strong."
