The 2011-12 Santa Clara women’s tennis team saw many firsts this year from the beginning of preseason in September to the postseason at the NCAA Singles Championship in May. With program history made and records broken, the goals and expectations are set high for next season’s squad.

Battling To Third Set, Katie Le Falls In Santa Clara's First-Ever NCAA Women's Singles Championship Match
Making history Wednesday by playing in Santa Clara’s first-ever NCAA Women's Singles Championship match, Bronco sophomore Katie Le pushed it to a third set in singles with a thrilling second-set victory, but couldn’t hold on and lost 6-7(4), 7-5 and 0-6 to No. 37 Abigail Tere-Apisah of Georgia State.

Katie Le to Play in Santa Clara's First-Ever NCAA tournament Singles Match Wednesday
All Bronco fans eyes are expected to be turned to the NCAA website at 8 am on Wednesday when Santa Clara sophomore Katie Le takes to the courts in Santa Clara's first-ever NCAA Championship Singles match. Le will play Abigail Tere-Apisah of Georgia State at 8 am (Pacific) on Wed., May 22 in Athens, Ga. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Agra's Life-Long Tennis Experiences World-Wide Pay Off With All-WCC Honors
Playing on one of the top doubles teams in the West Coast Conference, junior Jessica Agra received First Team All-WCC in doubles this season with sophomore Katie Le as a part of the Bronco women’s tennis team. Following her outstanding recognition, she sat down with SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCU) to share a different side of her athletic adventure. Agra talked about how she first fell in love with tennis and how she pursued her tennis career internationally to receive a Division I scholarship.

Le Named WCC Player of the Year; Three Receive All-WCC Honors
Setting the tone from the start of the fall season, Santa Clara University sophomore Katie Le was named the 2012 West Coast Conference Player of the Year on Wednesday. Based on overall season performance and the results from the WCC Championships, the Santa Clara women’s tennis team collected four West Coast Conference honors from the WCC coaches’ vote as well.

WCC Player of the Year Katie Le Grabs School’s First-Ever Individual Bid to NCAA Tournament
Learning earlier Wednesday she was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, Santa Clara sophomore Katie Le got an even bigger surprise later when Bronco head coach Ben Cabell called to tell the Milpitas native that she received an at-large bid the NCAA Tournament in singles. It is the first-ever individual bid for a men’s or women’s tennis player at Santa Clara.

The Santa Clara women’s tennis fell to No. 38 Pepperdine by a score of 4-1 in the semifinal match of the West Coast Championships in San Diego, Calif. on Friday, April 27.

No. 5 Women's Tennis Upsets No. 4 LMU 4-0; Play No. 1 Pepperdine Tomorrow
After ending No. 8 Gonzaga’s WCC Championship run yesterday, No. 5 Santa Clara put up another convincing 4-0 win to upset No. 4 Loyola Marymount in San Diego, Calif. today. The Broncos move on to the semifinal match against No. 1 Pepperdine on Friday, April 27 at 12:30 p.m.

No. 5 Women's Tennis Sweeps by No. 8 Gonzaga; Play No. 4 LMU Thursday
At the West Coast Championships, the No. 5 seeded Santa Clara women's tennis team swept past No. 8 Gonzaga 4-0 (the match was then suspended due to the Bronco victory). The Broncos advance to the second round to play No. 4 Loyola Marymount on Thursday, April 26 at 12:30 p.m. in San Diego, Calif.

No. 5 Women's Tennis Takes On No. 8 Gonzaga at the WCC Championships
The No. 5 seeded Broncos, who ended the regular season 11-10 overall and 4-4 in the WCC, will take on the No. 8 seed Gonzaga on Wednesday, April 25 at 12:30 p.m. If Santa Clara wins on Wednesday, they will play the winner of the No. 4 LMU and No. 9 Portland match in the second round on Thur., April 26 at 12:30 p.m

WCC Championship Brackets and All-Academic Teams Announced for Women's Tennis
The Bronco women have secured the No. 5 seed and will play No. 8 seed Gonzaga in the first round on Wednesday, April 25 at 12:30 p.m. Sophomore No. 48 Katie Le and junior Kelly Lamble were both awarded top honors on the WCC All-Academic Team announced Monday as well, and junior Maggie McGeorge and senior Kacie Wagner received Honorable Mentions for Santa Clara.

Santa Clara Women's Tennis, Men's Cross Country Lead Athletic Department with 3.5+ GPAs in Winter 2012
Santa Clara University’s student-athletes recorded a 3.107 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2012 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 15th time in 16 quarters. In addition 105 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher this quarter - 35 more than last quarter - and 81 Bronco student-athletes have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Santa Clara’s cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.048.

Santa Clara women’s tennis team dropped its match against No. 39 Saint Mary’s by a score of 6-1 Sunday. The Broncos host the final two matches of the 2011-12 season this weekend against Gonzaga and Portland.

Santa Clara Women's Tennis Falls at San Diego after Rain Delay
After rainy weather forced the Santa Clara women’s tennis team’s match to be postponed on Friday afternoon, the Broncos (9-9; 2-3 WCC) resumed play on Saturday morning, finishing the No. 3 singles match. The Santa Clara women fell to the Toreros 4-0.

Women's Tennis Travels Twice This Weekend to WCC Opponents
The Santa Clara women's tennis team plays the remaining four West Coast Conference opponents of the season before traveling to San Diego, Calif. for the WCC Championships April 26-28. This weekend the Broncos compete against University of San Diego on Fri., Apr. 13 at 1:30 p.m. and against Bay Area Rival No. 39 Saint Mary's College on Sun., Apr. 15 at 11:00 a.m.

The Santa Clara women’s tennis team was handed its first 7-0 loss of the 2012 season this morning by the No. 6 Stanford Cardinal. The Bronco women look forward to finishing off the season against the remaining four WCC opponents before the WCC Championships in San Diego, Calif. at the end of April.

No. 72 Women's Tennis Wins at BYU
No. 72 Santa Clara started the day in Provo on a high note, winning the doubles point and then finished off first-year member BYU in singles, winning three of the six singles matches. The Bronco women move to 8-5 and are 2-0 in league play this year with their 6-1 win over USF on March 2 as well. The Cougars move to 5-11 and 1-2 in their first year of play in the WCC.

Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 at Utah State
Playing at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club at Utah State on Monday before Santa Clara's league-opener on the road vs. BYU on Tuesday, No. 72 Santa Clara fell 4-3 to Utah State on Monday. The women move to 7-5 and are 1-0 in league play this year with their 6-1 win over USF on March 2. Utah State moves to 7-7.

Kyle Dandan and Katie Le Visit With COMCAST's Ted Robinson at Half-Time
During half-time of the Santa Clara men's basketball game vs. Pepperdine on Thursday, the Broncos' nationally-ranked tennis players Kyle Dandan and Katie Le sat down and visited with play-by-play announcer Ted Robinson on the COMCAST TV broadcast. Robinson is well-known for his commentary on NBC's telecasts of Wimbledon and the Olympics as well as the French Open.

Meet the Hot Sport Rising Player: Maggie McGeorge
One of the hot Bronco sports to watch in 2012 is Santa Clara women’s tennis. The team has a 6-2 record so far and has a three match winning-streak including victories against nationally-ranked No. 68 UC Davis, 4-3, and No. 65 Santa Barbara, 7-0. A junior on the team, Maggie McGeorge is one of the main contributors for Bronco’s success. She won every doubles match that the Broncos won and defeated the past two opponents from the nationally-ranked teams in singles. In this interview, McGeorge talks about what playing tennis is like at Santa Clara and how team is progressing this season.

Santa Clara Women's Tennis Splits in Texas This Weekend
The No. 73 Santa Clara women's tennis team flew to Texas looking for sunny skies. Instead the team was greeted by temperatures in the 20s and snow. Both the Broncos matches were forced inside. The Broncos fell 5-0 to No. 42 Texas Tech on Saturday, but they rebounded nicely to top No. 74 Florida International on Sunday 4-2.

Bronco Student-Athletes Record School Record 3.14 GPA For Spring 2011 Quarter
Recording the highest grade point average in Santa Clara history, Bronco student-athletes recorded a school record 3.14 gpa for the spring 2011 quarter. The previous high-water mark for the student-athletes one quarter gpa was 3.11 in the winter of 2009. In addition 92 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA this quarter. Santa Clara's student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 GPA or better 13 of the last 14 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative gpa for its student-athletes is 3.097.

Bronco Tennis Player and English Native Zaniewski Experiences Wimbledon
Rising junior Alex Zaniewski is a member of the Bronco women’s tennis team and is a London, England native. After a successful tennis season with the Broncos, Zaniewski has returned to her home country this summer for an internship and also to play. Zaniewski worked a pre-Wimbledon Tournament, the Boodles, and has since been watching the tournament and also went a couple days. Below she blogs about her experiences.
