Santa Clara, Calif.—The No. 66 Santa Clara women's tennis team travels to San Luis Obispo, Calif. on Sunday, March 11 to take on Cal Poly State University at 11:00 a.m. The Broncos return home on Friday, March 16 to host University of Nevada, Reno at 2:00 p.m. in the Degheri Tennis Center.
"Cal Poly has always been a tough opponent. The Bronco team has yet to pull out a win against them since I have been coaching at Santa Clara. Even though we do have a higher ranking than them, it will be a close match and a fun one to watch," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell.
The Broncos (7-3) put up an impressive fight against No. 43 Fresno State last Sunday but fell to the Bulldogs 4-3. Santa Clara looks to redeem itself against the Mustangs this weekend.
"Our girls have been excited for this match all week at practice. We look forward to and welcome these types of challenges," said Cabell. " The freshmen have also stepped up and filled in nicely for some of our injured players. I have confidence in them that they will perform to their highest ability under any circumstances."
No. 48 Katie Le improved her overall singles record in the No. 1 position to 8-2 this past weekend. Le edged out No. 42 Marianne Jodoine of Fresno State in two sets 6-4, 7-5 and defeated Julia Wartenburger of USF 7-5, 6-2. Le has only lost one match on her home turf, which was against No. 3 Jana Juricova of No. 10 California, back in January.
