Hosted by Bronco Volleyball, Fifth Annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer on Mission Campus Sat., May 11 at 8:30 am
It is that time of year again to come out and walk for pancreatic cancer so come out and join the Bronco volleyball team and a number of other Bronco student-athletes, coaches and staff. The Fifth Annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer will take place on the Santa Clara University campus on Sat., May 11 at 8:30 am. It's a 5K walk that will start and end at the campus library, across from Benson.

Quick Break with Danielle Rottman
While most teams are preparing for fall volleyball season, this freshman from Santa Barbara, Calif. is in the midst of playing the squad’s newest obsession, beach volleyball. During the past fall season, Rottman played in 48 sets and earned 33 digs, and three blocks. SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) was able to sit down with Danielle Rottman (DR) and talk about her time as a Bronco so far, some of her training tips, and memorable experiences.

Coming Off 14th NCAA Tournament, Santa Clara Volleyball Adds Six+ Sand Volleyball Dates to Indoor Spring Schedule
Santa Clara volleyball, fresh off its 14th NCAA appearance in 2012, has hit the ground running this winter and is looking forward to both its indoor spring schedule and the sand volleyball schedule as well. After playing in an informal sand tournament last year in Malibu, Santa Clara will add at least six dates of sand volleyball during the months of March-April with the schedule to be released later. In addition to their training schedule and competition dates, Santa Clara’s volleyball team will host the Fifth Annual Walk For Pancreatic Cancer on Sat., May 11, 2013 at 8 am on the Mission campus (more details to come so mark your calendar today!). The team has raised more than $90,000 over the past five years for cancer research.

Volleyball and Sustainability Recap with Megan Anders
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Junior Megan Anders (MA) had one of her best seasons this past fall as a part of the Santa Clara volleyball team. Anders played in 127 sets with 383 kills and had a hitting percentage of .361. Broncos Fall To No. 8 Hawaii In NCAA First Round
Playing in the school’s 14th NCAA tournament, Santa Clara fell in the first round 3-0 to No. 8 Hawaii. Hawaii, who ran through its conference undefeated this year with an 18-0 record, advances to Saturday night’s second round to play the winner of the No. 5 Washington – Central Arkansas being played later Friday.

Volleyball's Anders Named First Team All-WCC, Milton Tabbed As Honorable Mention All-WCC
Leading Santa Clara to the school’s 14th NCAA tournament, junior middle blocker Megan Anders was named to the West Coast Conference First Team on Monday. It is the 15th straight season the Santa Clara volleyball team has placed at least one player on the West Coast Conference First Team. In addition, sophomore Taylor Milton was named to the All-WCC Honorable Mention team. Last week Kayla Lommori was named to the 12-member All-Academic Team with two others being named Honorable Mention: junior Katherine Douglas and sophomore Katy Schatzman.

Volleyball Receives 14th NCAA Tournament Bid; To Play No. 8 Hawaii in Seattle on Friday
The Broncos volleyball team can’t wait to take the practice court this afternoon at 3 pm. The Santa Clara volleyball team received the school’s 14th NCAA tournament bid on Sunday and will be play No. 8 Hawaii on Fri., Nov. 30. The Broncos are 20-11 this season and Hawaii, who plays out of the Big West Conference, is 25-2. The winner will advance to the play the winner of No. 5 Washington (23-6) vs. Central Arkansas (30-4) game on Sat., Dec. 1.

Lommori Leads Three Broncos Named to WCC All-Academic Teams
Excelling both in the classroom and on the court, Santa Clara senior Kayla Lommori was named to the 2012 West Coast Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team on Monday. Junior Katherine Douglas and sophomore Katy Schatzman were both named to the All-Academic Honorable Mention team.

Volleyball Drops Final Regular Season Match at Saint Mary's
Finishing off the regular season, Santa Clara dropped a 3-0 match at Saint Mary’s on Saturday. Set scores were 14-25, 18-25 and 13-25. Santa Clara finishes the regular season at 20-11 and 9-8 in the WCC. Saint Mary’s is 17-10 and 12-4 in the WCC. Santa Clara will now wait until next Sunday (Nov. 25) to see if it receives an at-large NCAA tournament berth.

Broncos Fall to LMU on Senior Night for Volleyball
On Bronco Senior Night in the Leavey Center, Santa Clara fell 3-0 Thursday night in West Coast Conference action to LMU. Set scores were 18-25, 19-25 and 22-25. Santa Clara is 20-10 and 9-6 in the West Coast Conference. LMU is 18-11 and 8-7 in the WCC.

Volleyball Hosts Senior Night Thursday vs. LMU; Watch Video With Coach Wallace, Lexi and Kayla!
Santa Clara hosts LMU for its Senior Night on Thurs., Nov. 15 at 6 pm before travelling to Saint Mary’s for its final regular season match of the year on Sat., Nov. 17 at 1 pm. The Broncos will say goodbye to seniors Lexi Williamson and Kayla Lommori, both four-year starters. Santa Clara enters the week at 20-9 and 9-5 in the West Coast Conference. Santa Clara is in fourth place. LMU is 17-11 and 7-7 in the WCC. Saint Mary’s enters Thursday’s match at USF with a 15-10 record and 10-4 in the WCC.

Volleyball Splits Season Series With No. 14 BYU
After defeating No. 14 BYU at home on Oct. 20, BYU returned the favor on Saturday when No. 14 the Cougars defeated Santa Clara 3-0. Set scores were 9-25, 19-25 and 20-25. Santa Clara returns home Thursday to host LMU in the final regular season home match of the year and it will honor its seniors that night as well.

Volleyball Wins 20th Match of the Year With 3-2 Win Over USF
Santa Clara won its 20th match of the year on Thursday night with a 3-2 win over USF. Santa Clara is 9-3 in five set matches this year, including 4-1 in West Coast Conference play. Set scores were 25-21, 25-27, 25-15, 17-25 and 15-12. SCU is 20-8 and 9-4 in the WCC. USF is 14-12 and 5-8 in the WCC. Santa Clara will travel to No. 14 BYU on Saturday before returning home next Thursday night for its final home match of the year – Senior Night.

Volleyball Hosts USF on Thursday; Wear PURPLE and get in FREE!

Volleyball Defeats Portland For Its 19th Win Of The Year
Led by the talented play of junior middle blocker Megan Anders and Haley Cameron, Santa Clara defeated Portland 3-1 Saturday afternoon in the Leavey Center. Set scores were 25-19, 21-25, 25-20 and 25-18. Santa Clara is 19-8 and 8-4 in the WCC. Portland is 6-21 and 0-13 in the WCC.

Energized Volleyball Travels To USF Thursday; Hosts Portland at 1 pm Saturday
Fresh off its 3-2 win at No. 14 San Diego on Saturday, handing the Toreros their first home loss this season and just its fourth in three plus years, Santa Clara will head up I-280 on Thursday to play at USF at 6:30 pm. The Broncos will return home on Saturday when they host Portland at 1 pm.

Volleyball's Anders Named West Coast Conference Player of the Week
Junior middle blocker Megan Anders hit for a .500 clip with 39 kills, averaging 4.88 kpg and 0.50 bpg, leading Santa Clara to a 2-0 record this past week and for her efforts, she was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week. With the victories, the Broncos improve to 16-7 overall and 5-3 in WCC play.

Santa Clara Volleyball Knocks Out No. 16 BYU In Five
Defeating its second top 20 West Coast Conference team in less than a month, Santa Clara beat No. 16 BYU 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in the Leavey Center, handing the Cougars just their second loss of the year. Set scores were 31-29, 20-25, 25-21, 13-25 and 16-14 Santa Clara is 16-7 and 5-3 in league play. BYU falls to 19-2 and 7-2 in the WCC.

Junior Setter Alyssa Anderson Hopes To Lead The Volleyball Team To A Victory Over No. 16 BYU

Junior setter Alyssa Anderson (AA) helped the team with 28 assists and 13 digs. As the team readies to host No. 16 BYU, Anderson leads the team with 6.39 apg and is tied for the team lead with 0.33 sapg. She also collects 2.00 dpg. Recently, www.SantaClaraBroncos.com had the chance to talk to Anderson about the team’s goals, her responsibilities on the team and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Volleyball Hosts Alumni Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Event vs. No. 16 BYU Saturday
Santa Clara will host second-year West Coast Conference member and No. 16 BYU on Saturday at 1 pm. The Cougars play at Saint Mary’s on Thursday night and the Broncos come into the match after a 3-0 beating of Sac State on Tuesday night. Immediately following the match, the men’s basketball team will host its annual Red & White Scrimmage.

Women's Volleyball Breast Cancer Awareness Match This Saturday
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Santa Clara women's volleyball team will host a PINK theme match Sat., Oct. 20 vs. BYU. It is meant to spread Breast Cancer Awareness and inspire fans to become more involved in the fight against the disease. Santa Clara, playing its fourth straight West Coast Conference match on the road, fell in five at No. 24 Pepperdine on Saturday. Santa Clara Volleyball Defeats No. 18 Pepperdine; Anders Hits .545 With 12 Kills, 0 Errors
In what Bronco head coach Jon Wallace termed as "a total team effort", Santa Clara defeated No. 18 Pepperdine 3-1 on Saturday at the Leavey Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-17. It is Santa Clara's first volleyball win over a top 20 team since the Broncos defeated No. 13 Kansas State 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Dec. 5, 2008.

Volleyball Crushes Brown in Three; Three Broncos Hit .444 Or Better
Santa Clara won 3-0 over Brown Saturday morning in its third match of the Fullerton Classic. Santa Clara will turn around in a couple hours to play its fourth match in 26 hours at host Cal State Fullerton. Set scores were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-21. Santa Clara is now 9-4 and Brown is 3-5.

Volleyball Defeats Host Cal State Fullerton In Five; Open WCC Play Thursday vs. Gonzaga
Going five sets seems to be the way to win for the Broncos. Winning its fifth five set match in seven tries this season, the Santa Clara volleyball team came back after being down 2-1 to defeat host-Cal State Fullerton in its final match of the Fullerton Classic on Saturday afternoon. Playing its fourth match in 24 hours, including a 3-2 win over San Diego State on Friday, the Broncos defeated the Titans 11-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-23 and 15-9. Santa Clara moves to 10-4 and Cal State Fullerton, who plays its second match tonight, is 6-6.

Santa Clara played its sixth five-set match this season and defeated No. 28 San Diego State 3-2 in its first match of the Fullerton Classic in Fullerton, Calif. The Broncos move to 8-3 and San Diego State moves to 6-3. Santa Clara is to play three more matches in the next 24 hours vs. Oregon State, Brown and host-Cal State Fullerton.

Volleyball's Schatzman Re-lives MVP Weekend in Families Hometown, Including Visit to Arch
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Katy Schatzman (KS) traveled back with the Bronco volleyball team to her roots of St. Louis, Mo. She showcased her talent in front of friends and family from the area, took her teammates and coaches to the Arch, and better yet, was named MVP of the SIUE tournament. Pushing it to a fifth set for the fifth time this season, Santa Clara fell 3-2 to Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the Stanford Invitational. Santa Clara moves to 6-3 and Pacific is a perfect 8-0. Bronco Volleyball Travels to Stanford Invite For Three Matches; Face Host No. 8 Stanford Friday Night
After playing the last two weekends one the road, Santa Clara will return to the Bay Area this weekend to play in near-by Palo Alto at the Stanford Invitational. The Broncos, 6-1 on the year, have notched their best start since 2008 when they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Washington (advanced to the Elite Eight).

Anders, Milton Named To Aggie Invite All-Tournament Team; No. 8 Stanford Next
Santa Clara had two volleyball players named to the Aggie Invitational last weekend at UC Davis. Middle blocker Megan Anders and outside hitter Taylor Milton were named to the team after leading the Broncos to a 6-1 record. Anders was also named to the SIUE Invitational All-Tournament team two weeks ago after leading the Broncos to a 3-0 record.

Broncos Play Third Five-Set Match in 24 Hours, Defeat Host UC Davis
Playing its third five-set match in just 24 hours, Santa Clara outlasted host-UC Davis Saturday morning and won its sixth match in seven tries to start the 2012 season. SCU is already 3-1 in five-set matches this season. Santa Clara is 5-1 and UC Davis moves to 2-3. Santa Clara will play at the Stanford Invitational next weekend, fist matching up with the No. 9 Cardinal at 7 pm on Fri., Sept. 7. Broncos Play Second Fifth-Set Match in 8 Hours Falling to a Fresh UNC Team
Playing its second match five-set match in eight hours, Santa Clara fell 3-2 to North Carolina in the Aggie Invitational on Friday in Davis, Calif. Santa Clara moves to 5-1 and North Carolina, playing its first match in the tournament after watching SCU defeat Utah 3-2 in the morning match, is now 3-1.

Bronco Volleyball Takes Down Undefeated Utah in 5
With three Bronco players scoring double-digit kills, the Santa Clara’s volleyball team defeated previously-unbeaten Utah 3-2 Friday morning at UC Davis. The Broncos are 5-0 and Utah is 5-1. The set scores were 21-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20 and 18-16.

Bronco Volleyball Takes Perfect Record To Aggie Invite to Face Utah, UNC and UC Davis
After opening its season 4-0 in its trip to the Midwest, the Santa Clara volleyball team will travel a couple hours north to play at UC Davis in the Aggie Invitational. The Broncos don’t have an easy road once there as they start quickly with a 5-0 Utah team at 11 am on Friday and then face North Carolina at 5 pm. On Saturday Santa Clara finishes its weekend play at host UC Davis at 11 am.

Volleyball Wins In Three At St. Louis To Wrap Up 4-0 Weekend
Santa Clara won 3-0 at Saint Louis Monday night to wrap up a 4-0 swing through the Midwest in three days. The Broncos defeated Saint Louis 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20. They return to California to play North Carolina and Utah on Friday and then host-UC Davis on Saturday.

Santa Clara Volleyball's Schmidt Named Top 30 for NCAA Woman of the Year Award; Top 9 To Be Named In Mid-September
Assuming that the "extremely urgent" UPS express envelope delivered to her house was for her parents, when she looked at the package more closely Tanya Schmidt was surprised to see her own name as the recipient. She opened the envelope slowly, careful not to make any unnecessary rips to the package. As she read the letter on official NCAA paper, a huge smile appeared on her face. Santa Clara's Tanya Schmidt had been named one of the Top 30 nominees for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The Top 30 were selected from a list of almost 430 university nominees that had been paired down to 133 conference nominees in early August. Ten nominees from each NCAA division are represented in the Top 30, and on the list, Schmidt is one of just two Division I volleyball players. Click here for the release on the Top 30 list.

Schatzman Named Tournament MVP As Bronco Volleyball Wins First Tournament of the Year In Illinois
Behind sophomore libero Katy Schatzman, who averaged 21 digs this weekend and was named the MVP of the Tournament, Santa Clara swept the SIU Edwardsville Tournament this weekend, collecting a final-match 3-0 win vs. Western Illinois on Sunday. Megan Anders and Katherine Douglas were both named to the SIUE All-Tournament team. Santa Clara travels to St. Louis University for a 5:30 pm match on Monday night before returning to the Mission Campus.

Volleyball Opens 2012 With Two Wins the First Day
Santa Clara's volleyball team opened its 2012 season on the road this weekend with a 3-1 win over host SIU Edwardsville and a 3-2 win over Montana State a couple hours later on Saturday. Santa Clara closes out its play in the SIUE Tournament with Western Illinois at 10 am Pacific on Sunday before playing at Saint Louis on Monday at 5:30 pm Pacific.

Volleyball Opens Up Season in Midwest; Complete Schedule for Weekend
Starting a new season with a totally new look, the Santa Clara volleyball team will play its first four weekends on the road, starting off in the Saint Louis metro area this weekend. It will open the season on Sat., Aug. 25 at host SIU Edwardsville in the morning and then play Montana State later in the afternoon. On Sun., Aug. 26 the Broncos will play Western Illinois. Santa Clara will close out the weekend with a match at St. Louis on Mon., Aug. 27.

Bronco Volleyball Starts Practice For 2012 Opener

West Coast Conference Nominates Bronco Volleyball's Schmidt For NCAA Woman of the Year
Graduating senior Tanya Schmidt '12 has another feather to add to her cap as she has been named as one of the West Coast Conference nominees for the 22nd annual Woman of the Year Award. Schmidt was named the West Coast Conference Post-Graduate Scholarship winner in June after being awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in March. Schmidt is one of two women nominated by the WCC for the award.

Bronco Volleyball Names Former All-American Aaron Mansfield As An Assistant Coach
With great pride and excitement, Bronco head coach Jon Wallace announced Monday that he has hired Aaron Mansfield as an assistant coach for the Santa Clara volleyball team. The Sunnyvale, Calif. native, who will start immediately, comes to Santa Clara after working for three of the last five years at UC Santa Barbara with the men’s volleyball program. He was also training with the US National team and playing on the AVP during that span as well.

Bronco Volleyball Players Climb Half Dome Two Days After Graduation!
Bronco volleyball players come to Santa Clara to play the sport they love, attend classes on the Mission campus and bond with their teammates on and off with the court on a daily basis. Sometimes the bonding goes to a whole another level. Graduating senior Tanya Schmidt and rising junior Megan Anders bonded as they climbed the 5,000 foot Half Dome in Yosemite National Park on the Monday after Santa Clara’s graduation, June 18.

Chelsea Heier Looks Forward To Continued Success on the West Coast
Chelsea Heier (CH) had an outstanding freshman season at Marquette, and is ready to continue her success with the Broncos. Transferring to Santa Clara University (SCU) as a sophomore, Heier is most excited to be continuing her education in California and being closer to her family while she dominates on the court. Beginning her volleyball career in her hometown of San Clemente, Calif., Heier’s success continued at Marquette University as she was named the 2011 Big East Conference Freshman of the Year and selected as member of the All-Big East Second-Team.

The grand total this year is in and it’s pretty amazing! The Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer, hosted on the Mission Campus on May 12, 2012 in cooperation the Bronco volleyball team, raised more than $32,000 this year! The Bronco volleyball team has worked with Arlene Mariani and UCSF to raise almost $85,000 in donations as part of the Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer in the past four years!

Bronco Volleyball Welcomes Five Players in 2012
Santa Clara head volleyball coach Jon Wallace is proud to welcome the 2012 class of signees as announced on Thursday. The class includes three true freshmen from California, a junior transfer from Texas and a sophomore transfer for Marquette with both hailing from California high schools. Santa Clara reports Aug. 4 and will begin the season at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Sat., Aug. 25. Its first home match, the WCC opener, is vs. Gonzaga on Thurs., Sept. 20 at 6 pm.

Bronco Volleyball Looking For 14th NCAA Tournament Bid
Looking for its 14th NCAA tournament bid in the last 21 years, including the 12th under Bronco head coach Jon Wallace, the Santa Clara volleyball team will travel to four preseason tournaments this season as part of its 2012 schedule, before returning home to host its first three West Coast Conference games against two 2011 NCAA tournament teams in late September.

Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer Raises Almost $30,000!
Helping raise almost $30,000 for cancer research (as of May 22), the Santa Clara volleyball team hosted the fourth annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer on the Mission Campus on May 12. The Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer has raised more than $83,000 since its start in 2009 with all proceeds being donated to the UCSF Foundation.

SCU Places Record Number on 10th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll
With the conclusion of the 2010-11 academic year, the West Coast Conference is proud to announce the 10th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes those student-athletes that possess at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. A record number 122 Bronco student-athletes made the list, besting last year's mark of 118. Santa Clara had 21 on the Gold list, 21 on the Silver list and 80 on the Bronze list. Santa Clara's student-athletes recorded a school-best 3.14 GPA during the Spring 2011 quarter as well.
