WCC All-Freshman selection Sabrina Clayton (SC) hopes to be an impactful leader for her next season as a sophomore. Working to accomplish specific goals, Clayton and her team are working hard on and off the court. Clayton shares a little bit about her Santa Clara experience so far and why she chose to be a Bronco.
SCB: Being an important freshman on the floor last season then being named to the WCC All-Freshman Team, how has that motivated you going forward for you upcoming season next fall?
SC: It has motivated me to step up and become a better leader next year. It has also made me want to keep improving so that in following years I will have an even greater impact on this team.
SCB: What has your off-season training been like?
SC: We have been lifting, running and playing volleyball this quarter. We have specific goals we want to accomplish with our conditioning and we have been working very hard at trying to master them. It has been a lot of fun to work so hard as a team to accomplish our goals and it has brought us a lot closer on top of that.
SCB: Do you have any goals you are working towards leading up to next fall?
SC: My main goal is to win the West Coast Conference.
SCB: Why did you choose Santa Clara University?
SC: I loved how Santa Clara was such a small school; the small class sizes were a huge part of my decision to attend SCU. I loved how beautiful the campus was and the location of the school. Also, the academics are great and so is the volleyball program.
SCB: Having a quarter here at Santa Clara under your belt, do you feel like you are starting to get the hang of being a collegiate student-athlete?
SC: Yes, I feel like my time management skills have gotten a lot better. I also am starting to get used to college assignments and what the schoolwork load is like.
