SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf concludes its fall season at the 16-team Saint Mary's Invitational starting Monday. The three-day tournament will be contested on the 7,002-yard, par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Four teams in the top-20 of the current Golftstat.com rankings will tee it up along with eight others currently positioned among the top-100. No. 6 BYU, No. 14 Arizona, No. 17 Oregon State and No. 20 Colorado State highlight the field.
"This is the best field we've seen so far," head coach Rob Miller said. "It's a prelude to what we'll see in the spring so it will be a good indication of where we are."
The Broncos, No. 66 in the poll, will have Jack Avrit back in the lineup after the junior missed the first three team events of the fall. "We held our own through the season and with Jack back it's the first time we have our veteran group together," Miller said.
Coming off a runner-up finish at the Pacific Invitational, senior Matt McCarty will play out of the No. 1 spot. McCarty's gone below par in five of his last six rounds to lead the team with a 69.11 stroke average and is No. 17 in the Golfstat.com individual rankings.
"The guys are familiar with this course but we've struggled in the past," Miller noted. "We're looking for a better result and everyone's excited about ending the fall in style."
Teams and individuals will play a single 18-hole round over each of the three days. Tee times from holes No. 1 and No. 10 starting at 7:45 p.m. PT will get Monday's first round underway. Live scoring is available by clicking here.
