Men's Soccer Hosts Missouri State Monday Night
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off the heals of a dominating 3-0 win over Holy Cross in the season opener, Santa Clara men's soccer will have a quick turnover and host Missouri State on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.  For the Bears, it will be their first official game of the season as the season opener with Kansas City last Thursday was canceled due to inclement weather after 45 minutes of play.
Missouri State is led by the winningest coach in program history, Jon Leamy, who is entering his 28th season at the helm with an overall record of 262-184-65.
The Bears were selected as favorites to win the Missouri Valley Conference in the coaches' preseason pool returning 11 players who saw action in 13 or more games last season.  In 2018, they finished with a 9-2-6 overall record, reaching the conference semifinal game.
Three Bears were named preseason all-conference selections: Josh Dolling, Kyle Hiebert, and Ben Stroud.
Dolling, a junior midfielder/forward, was named MVC All-Conference First-Team and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team last season after leading the conference in goals scored with 10 and in individual scoring with 23 points.

Senior defender Hiebert helped the Bears defense that led the conference in fewest goals allowed (13) and goals against average (0.70) the past two seasons. He received MVC All-Conference Second Team and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Third Team honors last season.

Senior defender Stroud earned United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team honors and was selected to the MVC All-Conference Second Team for the second straight year.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Michael Creek played in 16 matches, giving up just 13 goals to post a 0.76 goals against average that was second best in the conference while recording six shutouts.

Santa Clara is 0-1 all-time against Missouri State, having lost its lone matchup in 2018 in double overtime, 3-2.
