SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball travels to Missouri State Friday with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m. Pacific.
Last week, the Broncos topped San Jose State 89-81 and went to UC Davis where they won on a last second shot 62-61 after a big second half comeback.
Santa Clara is 1-0 all-time against Missouri State. Last year the Broncos topped the Lady Bears 77-73 at home.
Santa Clara (3-1) is scoring 78.0 points per game while allowing 64.5. The Broncos shoot 46.3-percent from the field and are holding opponents to a 36.3-percent mark while forcing 14.0 turnovers per game.
Merle Wiehl is leading the team with 11.8 ppg while shooting 55-percent from the floor and adding 3.5 rebounds per game. Tia Hay leads the team with 3.8 assists per game and is scoring 11.5 ppg. Lauren Yearwood scores 11.3 ppg with 6.5 rpg and a team best 1.5 blocks per game. Ashyln Herlihy's 9.0 rpg are tops on the team and she adds 11.0 ppg as well.
THE LADY BEARS
Missouri State (4-1) had won its first four games, including a 77-69 victory at then-No 23 Minnesota to start the year, before falling at No. 7 Oregon State 80-69 Sunday. The Lady Bears are outscoring their opponents 78.6-71.8 while shooting 47.8-percent from the field and 44.6-percent from downtown.
Alexa Willard leads the team with 21.2 ppg while shooting 55.7-percent from the floor. Jasmine Franklin grabs a team high 9.4 rpg and scores 9.4 ppg with Mya Bhinhar adding a team leading 4.2 apg and 8.6 ppg. Brice Calip scores 15.0 ppg with Elle Ruffridge adding 7.8 and Emily Gartner 7.4.
