FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Santa Clara women's golf failed to build off its tournament-low 302 in Monday's second-round carding a final-round 309 to finish 11th at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic with a 923 total.
New Mexico State led wire-to-wire to claim the team total by five swings over tournament host Colorado State. Boise State's Lexi Perry claimed the individual crown by one-shot.
"We have some work to do this season with the absence of Emily (Sumner) in the lineup," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "We need to find some consistency out there."
One of the Broncos' top players last season Sumner compiled a 73.97 stroke average competing in all 10 events with half of those ending in a top-5 finish.
Junior Sarah Busey was the Broncos top scorer on Tuesday with a 2-over 74, moving her up seven spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 16th at 9-over 225. It was Busey's 10th career top-20 finish.
Sophomore Claire Choi entered the final-round just four-shots off the pace but stumbled with a 79 to grab a share of 18th at 10-over 226.
The biggest mover on the leaderboard was Marni Murez, who jumped 15 spots into a tie for 43rd with a final-round 76. The senior overcame a rough opening round to finish at 20-over 236.
"We will have some great stretches then have a few hiccups," Kelly noted of her squad. "However, we are learning each and every time we tee it up."
The Broncos hit the back half of their fall season next week competing in the Molly Collegiate Invitational, which will be contested at the Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore.
