Santa Clara men's water polo team lost to #2 Cal today 11-5, two days after their upset of conference foe, #10 Loyola-Marymount. The Broncos are now 15-9 on the season.
While the team was disappointed, they did find something good to take away from the match as a learning experience. "Obviously we weren't happy to lose," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "But we played them better than we have any time in the past five years."
Josh Early, Liam Farrell, Mark Soares, Tommy Kelly, and Mike Sorgenfrei all scored one goal apiece for the Broncos. Goalie Robert Callahan had eight blocks as well in the effort.
Santa Clara gets back into action next Saturday against UC Santa Cruz before a big home stand against #7 UC Davis, the third time the Broncos will have faced them this year.
