SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The women's tennis team lost 4-3 in a West Coast Conference match against the University of San Francisco at Golden Gate Park on Sunday. Santa Clara fell behind 3-0 in the match, before coming back to tie the match at three. However, USF won the final match of the day to snatch the 4-3 victory. Casey Knuston, Lindsay McBride and Stephanie Galainena won singles matches for the Broncos.

As they have all season, Knutson and Erika Barnes had a strong match at No. 1 doubles for Santa Clara. They defeated Camille Pamart and Mylene Martin 8-6 for their eighth dual match win of the season. However, the Dons won at both No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the first point of the match.

USF kept the momentum going in singles with wins at No. 5 and No. 3. Barnes fell to Joana Macedo 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth spot, while Kim Daniel lost at the third position to Martin 6-3, 6-0.

Just when the day appeared lost, the Broncos responded with three straight match wins to get the match tied up. Galainena got the comeback started by defeating Lauren Hickey, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 6 and McBride followed that with a straight-sets win of her own. McBride defeated Jenny Sperry 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.

To tie the match, Knutson pulled out a big win at No. 2 over Emma Taylor. She dropped the first set 6-3, but came back to win the next two 6-3, 6-2 to pick up the victory.

Despite having momentum on their side, the Broncos could not complete the comeback. Myra Davoudi fell in a close three-set match in the top spot, losing to Pamart 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

With the loss, the Broncos are now 5-7 on the season and the team plays three matches this week. SCU hosts Washington State on Thursday, April 5 at 9:00 a.m. at the Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos then hit the road for two matches in Texas, playing Texas-Arlington on Friday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. PT and Southern Methodist University on Saturday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. PT.
