No. 15 Men's Water Polo Start 2008 Season with an, 11-4, Win over Iona at Princeton Invitational

Sept. 12, 2008

PRINCETON, NJ - The No. 15 Santa Clara men's water polo team started the 2008 season with a dominating, 11-4, win over Iona, in their first game at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, NJ. Six different Broncos saw the back of the net, including redshirt junior Jack Wall, who scored three goals in his debut after being out last season due to injury.

"It was a good game and the guys came out with a lot of energy," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "It was a great way to start the season; we were mentally focused and a lot of different guys contributed in today's win."

Having a standout game was redshirt senior Chris Parolin, who lead the team with four steals, two goals and two kick outs drawn. Parolin was a catalyst for the Broncos in their offensive efforts.

Freshman goal keeper Michael Wishart started in his first collegiate game. Wishart played strong at goal throughout the game stopping Iona's offensive attack, many of which were one-on-ones.

"Michael had a great game," said Wilbur. "He came out strong and played very well in his first game at the collegiate level."

The Broncos will hit the pool tomorrow for a doubleheader in day two of the Princeton Invitational. At 9:45 a.m. PT they will take on host No. 20 Princeton, followed by No. 19 Brown at 2:45 PT.
