Men's Water Polo Falls to No. 3 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. - Spencer Farrar, Connor Reid, Luca Cupido, and Johnny Hooper each scored three goals to lead No. 3 Cal to a 21-9 victory against Santa Clara men's water polo on Wednesday.

Despite playing without two starters, the Broncos (4-7) remained close during the first quarter with Nate Miller scoring two goals and Scott Zurnacian and Ryan Werner each tallying one as Cal led 5-3.

The Bears (13-1) were able to pull away in the second quarter, scoring nine goals.

"I thought the guys came out and fought hard," Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur said. "They did some good things on offense, scoring nine goals was a positive. I think we could have played better defensively, especially on the counter and 5-on-6 defense. Cal is definitely a very good team."

DeMarco Orella led the team in steals and kickouts drawn with three each, while Dane Estrella had one goal and team highs of two assists and three field blocks.

In addition to Miller's team-high two goals, he drew two kickouts and one 5-meter penalty shot.

The Broncos hit all three of their 5-meter attempts. Cal connected on all six of its power plays and held Santa Clara to 2 of 9 with the man advantage.

• Zurnacian and Vinnie Sicat scored their third goals of the season.
• Werner, Orella and Dylan Fara tallied one goal apiece with each coming off a 5-meter attempt.
