SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After multiple rain postponements, Santa Clara men's tennis finally played its first match since Feb. 23 but showed no ill effects to roll past Army, 7-0 on Monday.
Santa Clara (7-3) endured a cancellation and three postponements in the last two weeks including the match against Army that was originally scheduled for last Saturday.
The Broncos dominated play to win all nine matches and dropped just one set in the process with the match clincher by
Robert Seby over Alejandro Quiros, 6-2, 6-2 on court five.
Gu and Seby beat Army's No. 1 tandem, Myles Conlin and Nikita Larichev, 6-4 to clinch the doubles point after Tapiador Barajas and Hinojosa defeated Diego Huttepain and Alejandro Quiros, 6-3 on court three.
The number two doubles team of
Arthur Neuhaus and
Vasileios Iliopoulos took down David Gorshein and David Mitchell 7-6 (7-1) as the two schools elected to play out all its matches.
In singles play, Tapiador Barajas beat Huttepain, 6-1, 6-2 to earn the second point for the Broncos, followed by
Connor Garnett's straight set win over Mitchell, 6-4, 6-1 before Seby's match clincher.
